Location Atlanta, GADepartment InformationAbout the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology
The School's Strategic Vision is available at https://www.ce.gatech.edu/strategic-vision The 2027 U.S. News and World Report rankings place both the Civil Engineering and the Environmental Engineering undergraduate programs at #1 in the country. The 2027 graduate program rankings will not be released for some time, but in 2026 the corresponding graduate programs were ranked #3 and #4, respectively.
We are a vibrant and intellectually diverse School, with people who are using new technologies to expand the notion of what it means to be civil and environmental engineers in the 21st Century. We teach our students the engineering fundamentals needed to be successful at the interface of the built and the natural worlds. Our program focuses on learning how to think, how to solve problems, and how to impact society for the better. We provide rigorous learning environments, together with out-of-the-classroom and overseas experiences challenging our students to reach their highest potential.
Job SummaryThe School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) (https://ce.gatech.edu) at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA invites applications for multiple tenure-track faculty positions in the areas of Geosystems Engineering and Transportation Systems Engineering. Applicants will be considered at all ranks, with a preference for the Assistant Professor rank, in the following particular areas:
The Geosystems Engineering (GEO) program seeks forward-thinking faculty who are advancing the frontiers of the field in areas such as multiphysics and multiscale studies of coupled processes in geomaterials, mining geoengineering, engineered geomaterials, sensing and continuous monitoring, data-driven design, energy geoengineering, climate-adaptive coastal geotechnics, and planetary geotechnics. We welcome candidates who bring innovative approaches, interdisciplinary perspectives, and a compelling vision for the future of geosystems engineering in response to pressing societal and technological challenges.
The Transportation Systems Engineering (TSE) program seeks candidates with research and teaching emphases in one or more of the areas of travel demand and human behavior, multimodal transportation systems, regional-scale planning and policy, and/or the future of transportation technology. We seek candidates whose research advances understanding how people, vehicles, infrastructure, and emerging technologies interact across transportation systems, including (but not limited to) areas such as activity-based modeling, attitudinal influences, mobility analysis, public transit, connected and automated vehicles, sensor-enabled infrastructure, asset management, and AI methods to solve real-world transportation problems. We are especially interested in candidates whose research and teaching incorporates contemporary computational tools, artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled methods, field validation, and multimodal systems thinking to address current and emerging transportation challenges. As transportation systems engineering continues to evolve, the successful candidate will leverage advances in AI and related methods to strengthen the field's core focus on the transportation problems that arise from interactions among people, infrastructure, operations, economics, technology, and policy.
In addition, the College of Engineering is advertising ( https://coe.gatech.edu/faculty-job-opportunities) multiple tenured/tenure-track faculty positions (at all ranks) across two multidisciplinary themes, one of which Energy and Sustainability is particularly relevant to the GEO and TSE areas of CEE. Potential candidates for these hires are asked to apply directly to the most appropriate School (CEE, in our case), but should clearly indicate in their cover letter that they are interested in the cross-cutting Energy and Sustainability theme, if applicable. Joint appointments (across two Schools) are possible, as appropriate.
Outstanding faculty candidates in other areas of Civil and Environmental Engineering including Construction and Infrastructure Systems Engineering (CISE), Environmental Engineering (ENVE) Structural Engineering, Mechanics and Materials (SEMM); and Water Resources Engineering (WRE) will also be considered.
