The Slone Epidemiology Center at Boston University invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Associate position in health disparities and neuroepidemiology. We seek motivated candidates with relevant training and research experience to join the investigative team of the Strong Heart Study (SHS) programs on cerebrovascular and Alzheimer's diseases, with a particular focus on cognitive and psychological resilience. The SHS is a longitudinal cohort spanning 35+ years, representing adults from 13 American Indian Tribes and communities across 3 U.S. regions, and is the largest such cohort of vascular disease and related conditions in this population. This postdoctoral associate position will provide training and research opportunities within the field of neuroepidemiology, with a focus on cognitive aging, risk, and resilience; vascular and Alzheimer's dementias; and community-based participatory research.

The Slone Epidemiology Center is located on the Boston University (BU) Medical Campus and includes faculty from both the School of Public Health and the School of Medicine. We have strong research collaborations across multiple BU departments and schools as well as the adjacent Boston Medical Center, a regional safety-net hospital. Additional research resources are available through Boston University Clinical and Translational Science Institute, the BU-BMC Research Center, the Biospecimen Archive Research Core, and more.

Required Skills

We are eager to recruit a colleague who supports our institutional commitment of ensuring that Boston University is inclusive, equitable, diverse, and a place where all constituents can thrive. We believe that diverse perspectives will enhance the quality of intellectual exchange and the creation of knowledge. Minimum qualifications include a doctoral degree in epidemiology or a related field (e.g., human biology, molecular biology, statistical genetics, biostatistics), with a track record of scholarship and scientific productivity in the form of peer-reviewed publications. Ideal candidates will demonstrate potential for extramural research funding. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to ongoing research programs as indicated above, and to develop independent research opportunities in collaboration with other SHS and Slone investigators.

To Apply:

Interested candidates are invited to send a cover letter stating interest in the position, curriculum vitae, a statement of current research interests and future research plans, and the names and contact information of three references. Materials should be emailed to Richard Vezina: rvezina@bu.edu. Application review will begin October 1, 2026 and will continue until the position is filled.

We are an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, natural or protective hairstyle, religion, sex, age, national origin, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, military service, pregnancy or pregnancy-related condition, or because of marital, parental, or veteran status. We are a VEVRAA Federal Contractor.

The Difference Is Our DNA

What compelled the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to award Boston University a grant to fight newborn mortality in Zambia? Why did Martin Luther King, Jr. adopt BU as a place where he could hone his message of justice and equality? And what is the catalyst that prompts 32,557 students from 135 countries to call BU their home every semester? It’s in our DNA: an inherent desire in each of our students, faculty, and staff to vigorously and dauntlessly pursue knowledge—and embrace the unlimited possibilities that come with it.

A Community Unlike Any Other

As you can see below, it takes people, ideas, and a little luck (Boston, you’re our town) to make BU what it is today: one of the most dynamic universities in the world.

Celebrated thinkers: On any given day, students will find themselves mesmerized by Nobel Prize winners, a poet laureate, and the first biomedical engineer ever to receive a MacArthur Foundation “Genius Award,” among others.

Extraordinary teaching: When a classroom starts to percolate with new ideas, it’s because our faculty of scholars and accomplished practitioners know how to ignite students’ imaginations. That’s why we reward our best teachers with BU’s most prestigious honor: The Metcalf Cup and Prize.

Groundbreaking research: With faculty dedicated to a creative, interdisciplinary approach to problem solving, BU has become a leading global research institution—propelled forward by over $350 million a year in sponsored program revenue.

World-class students: Elite students from all 50 states and 135 countries pursue higher education on BU campuses in Boston and at programs in L.A., D.C., and more than 30 other cities on six continents.

A city within a city: Today, 80% of our undergrads live on campus, which could explain the 525 student activity groups alone.

The greatest college town in the world: Boston. ’Nuff said.
