The School of Computer and Cyber Sciences (CCS) at Augusta University invites applications for tenure-track/tenured faculty positions at all ranks in Biomedical Systems Engineering.
Augusta University has embarked on an ambitious, multi-year effort to significantly expand its computing, cybersecurity, and health sciences research and education. The School of Computer and Cyber Sciences was founded in 2017 with the mission to provide high-engagement, state-of-the-art education, and research across its Computer Science, Information Technology, and Cybersecurity disciplines. The school is undergoing an unprecedented transformation and growth, starting the year 2022 with 35 faculty, as we are becoming a comprehensive research institution with national prominence, matching Augusta University’s designation as Georgia’s fourth comprehensive research university. The school offers a doctoral, two masters, and five undergraduate degrees in Computer Science, Information Technology, and Cybersecurity areas. The school has a rapidly increasing research momentum with more than 5 million dollars of new funding from NSF, DOD, and NSA within the past 18 months. The school headquarters are at the new Georgia Cyber Center at Augusta University, a 325,000-square-foot research and education facility representing a $100M investment by the State of Georgia.
The school is developing a new interdisciplinary Biomedical Systems Engineering (BMSE) program, the first undergraduate program of its type in Georgia. The program builds on the strengths of Augusta University in Health Sciences, and the growth in STEM and computing disciplines. The BMSE program, a four-year degree, will prepare graduates to develop digital healthcare-oriented systems and technologies with security and integrity guarantees. The program focuses on systems thinking perspectives to improve our understanding and management of biomedical and health-care systems.
Biomedical systems engineering is a strategic growth area for Augusta University. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the BMSE curriculum development and be involved in collaborative research in their areas of interest with the faculty of several colleges at the university, starting with the School of CCS, our youngest college, and including the College of Science and Mathematics, the Dental College of Georgia (DCG), and the Medical College of Georgia (MCG), the 13th oldest and 9th largest medical college in the nation.
The target appointment date is Fall 2022.
