Job Details

As an interior designer, you will develop creative design solutions, prepare construction documentation, and coordinate with consultants and vendors to deliver projects on time and within scope. This includes making daily project decisions and escalating higher-risk issues as needed.

As the link between the design group and external vendors, you’ll:

  • Measure, draw, and develop assigned projects (e.g., functional programming, space planning, material palettes, specific furniture finishes and equipment, and custom fabrications), and coordinate artwork, signage, and other specialties
  • Prepare presentations, drawings, specifications, and visualizations, and produce and coordinate construction documents and technical details
  • Collaborate with senior designers on large-scale projects while independently managing smaller projects, and conduct site visits, field verifications, and installation reviews
  • Manage multiple projects of moderate scope and complexity simultaneously while maintaining project schedules, budgets, and documentation within approved parameters
  • Coordinate vendors, consultants, contractors, and internal teams, and track FF&E procurement, delivery, and installation

As a designer, you’ll:

  • Participate in project meetings, communicate progress to stakeholders, and respond to work orders
  • Lead setup teams and departmental moves, including meeting with departmental heads to assess needs, developing functional programming and space planning, and supervising tradesmen and contractors during implementation
  • Assist with event and exhibition design and setup, and provide guidance and technical support to associate designers and quality managers
  • Collaborate with senior designers on project planning and resource coordination, build relationships with internal departments and external partners, and participate in design critiques and internal reviews
  • Support continuous improvement of design and documentation processes, and review drawings and project deliverables for accuracy and adherence to standards

Additionally, you’ll:

  • Create and distribute punch lists for projects, events, and tours, and ensure compliance with applicable building codes, accessibility standards, and safety requirements
  • Maintain design consistency with the organizational brand and standards, and ensure follow-through on building inspections and punch lists
  • Manage several projects valued between $1M and $5M and serve as a key contributor to larger projects
  • Regularly interface with clients and stakeholders, independently resolving routine issues and escalating strategic, budgetary, or high-risk decisions to the executive director
  • Adhere to all OSHA regulations and safe practices

Strong candidates will demonstrate the ability to:

  • Manage several moderately sized and complex projects
  • Manage multiple multicomponent projects and deadlines.

Candidates should ideally demonstrate:

  • Working knowledge of building codes, ADA requirements, and industry standards
  • Strong understanding of interior construction documentation and materials
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation skills

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in interior design, architecture, or a related field
  • At least three years of professional interior design experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficiency with design and documentation software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and visualization tools)

Preferred qualifications:

  • NCIDQ certification or progress toward licensure

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:

  • Acceptance as a SCAD-authorized driver
