The Department of Communication, Media and Culture offers majors in Communication, Journalism & Sports Media, and Public Relations & Strategic Communication. The teaching load is five courses per academic semester and may include face-to-face, hybrid or distance learning deliveries. Teaching assignments may include evening or weekend courses. We are seeking an excellent teacher-practitioner to teach the department’s foundation courses in journalism, such as news writing and reporting, media writing and multimedia storytelling. The successful candidate will also teach courses in their area of expertise, which should align with current departmental majors, minors and course offerings. Preferred qualifications include professional experience in news or sports reporting for broadcast, digital or print media outlets; the ability to teach multimedia and multiplatform journalism; and college-level teaching experience. Expertise in areas such as broadcast newswriting and producing, digital content producing, multimedia newswriting, data or investigative reporting, or artificial intelligence in the newsroom is welcome. Interested candidates should submit: (1) a letter of application addressing the qualifications above and describing teaching experience or ability, (2) curriculum vitae with links to a portfolio of professional work, (3) unofficial graduate transcripts, (4) evidence of teaching effectiveness, such as sample syllabi or student evaluations, if available, and (5) the names and contact information for three references electronically at https://jobs.coastal.edu/postings/123031. Official transcripts and letters of reference may be requested for interviewed candidates. Review of application materials will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
