Description
Web Content Manager

The Web Content Manager writes, builds, and maintains content across the Midway University website so that people, and the AI tools they increasingly use to research colleges, can find accurate and current information about the university. Using the university's content management system (CMS) and established templates, this position creates campaign and event landing pages, manages shared content that appears across many pages and channels, and connects the website with email, social media, video, news, and recruitment communications.

Working closely with the Marketing and Communications team and partners across campus, the Web Content Manager ensures every page meets brand standards, accessibility requirements, and search best practices, including the practices that shape how the university appears in AI-generated answers from tools such as Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot.

Though primarily a content role, this position requires working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript, along with light back-end work in Cascade and Modern Campus, such as adjusting templates, configuring reusable components and setting up content feeds. Custom development and server administration is managed by Information Technology.

The ideal candidate is a clear writer who is detail-oriented, organized, and service-minded, and who enjoys turning content from many sources into consistent, accessible web experiences for prospective students, current students, families, alumni, and the broader community.

Content for AI Visibility and Search

  • Write and structure web content so search engines and AI tools can accurately summarize and cite it, using clear headings, plain language, and direct answers to common questions.
  • Create and maintain FAQ content on the topics prospective students and families ask about most, such as admissions, cost, financial aid, and outcomes.
  • Implement structured data (schema.org markup) for programs, events, FAQs, and other key content.
  • Apply SEO best practices and stay current on changes in AI search, recommending adjustments as tools evolve.

Shared and Structured Content

  • Build and manage reusable content components, such as program details, deadlines, tuition and fee information, contact blocks, calls to action, and required disclosures, so information is updated once and displays correctly everywhere it appears.
  • Maintain the feeds and integrations that bring shared content into the website, including news, events calendars, faculty and staff directories, academic catalog and program data, and social media.
  • Work with content owners to confirm the authoritative source for key information and reduce duplicate or conflicting pages.

Landing Pages and Campaign Support

  • Build and launch landing pages for admissions, enrollment, events, advancement, and marketing campaigns using existing CMS templates, components, and page layouts.
  • Translate creative briefs, copy, and design direction from the Marketing and Communications team into well-structured, on-brand web pages.
  • Add and configure forms, calls to action, and embedded content, coordinating with system owners (e.g., admissions CRM, event registration, and giving platforms) so submissions route correctly.
  • Apply UTM parameters and tracking codes so campaign performance can be measured.
  • Meet campaign deadlines and coordinate launch timing with the marketing, social media, and email managers.

Integrated Digital Content

  • Coordinate with the email, social media, video, news, and digital advertising teams so web content supports and aligns with messaging across channels.
  • Adapt stories, videos, publications, and social content for the web, and prepare web content so it can be reused in other channels.
  • Embed and optimize video, social media, virtual tours, and other media, including transcripts and captions that add searchable, accessible text.
  • Ensure web pages connect smoothly with the admissions CRM (Recruiter), email journeys, event registration, and giving platforms so users move from one touchpoint to the next without gaps or conflicting information.
  • Contribute to a shared editorial calendar, so web updates align with campaigns, news, and key enrollment and advancement dates.

Website Updates and Maintenance

  • Update and modify existing web pages, including text, images, video, navigation, and page structure, in response to requests from campus departments and the Marketing and Communications team.
  • Manage the web request queue: receive, prioritize, and track requests, and communicate timelines to requestors.
  • Conduct periodic content audits to identify outdated, redundant, inaccurate, or inconsistent content and broken links, and work with content owners to update, consolidate, or retire pages.
  • Prepare and optimize images and media for the web, including cropping, resizing, and compressing files.
  • Perform quality assurance testing on desktop and mobile devices and across major browsers before and after publishing.

Accessibility, Brand, and Quality Standards

  • Ensure all published content conforms to WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards, including proper heading structure, descriptive link text, alternative text for images, sufficient color contrast, captioned video, and accessible documents.
  • Use accessibility checking tools to identify and correct issues and support the institution's ADA and web accessibility compliance efforts.
  • Apply the institution's brand guidelines, editorial style guide, and web standards consistently across all pages.
  • Write and edit web copy, headlines, summaries, and microcopy that are clear, scannable, and consistent.

Analytics and Reporting

  • Monitor web analytics (e.g., Google Analytics 4) and prepare regular reports on page traffic, engagement, landing page conversions, and visits referred by AI tools and search.
  • Recommend content and layout improvements based on data to increase inquiries, applications, registrations, and gifts.

Collaboration, Training, and Support

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for campus departments seeking web updates, providing guidance on content, structure, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with Information Technology on CMS issues, integrations, template bugs, and technical requests beyond the scope of this role.
  • Supervise, train, and review the work of student assistants, as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, digital media, web design, information technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience creating and maintaining web content in a content management system (e.g., WordPress, Drupal, Modern Campus/OmniUpdate, TerminalFour, or Cascade).
  • Working knowledge of Javascript, HTML and CSS.
  • Knowledge of web accessibility standards (WCAG) and experience creating accessible content.
  • Understanding of privacy and compliance standards for university websites, including cookie consent, data collection notices, and federally required disclosures.
  • A portfolio or links demonstrating web pages or landing pages the candidate has built or maintained.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in higher education or another complex, multi-department organization.
  • Experience with Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, and SEO tools.
  • Experience with a CRM or marketing platform (e.g., Recruiter, Slate, Salesforce, or similar) and web forms.
  • Familiarity with image editing and design tools (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Express, Canva, or Figma).
  • Experience with A/B testing or landing page conversion optimization.

Organization

ESTABLISHED AS THE KENTUCKY FEMALE ORPHAN SCHOOL, the school was the dream of Dr. Lewis Letig Pinkerton, a young physician and minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Together with James Ware Parrish, the Midway Christian Church elder who raised the funds necessary to open the school, they launched a revolutionary educational experiment. In antebellum Kentucky, the few girls who received formal education were taught to read only because it was considered necessary for their role as mothers. When they reached adulthood, they would read the Bible to their children. Female orphans were rarely offered even this meager amount of schooling. Without education or parental support and concern, the most many could hope for was a lifetime of drudgery as a maid or laborer.

The liberal arts curriculum and career preparation proposed by Dr. L.L. Pinkerton was a comprehensive solution to this tragic situation, and the benefits reached far beyond the individual girls who attended the school. Dr. Pinkerton’s dream became a reality as Midway-educated teachers went forth to share their learning with youngsters throughout the region. In the years since its inception, the institution has evolved to meet the educational needs of women, and men, while preserving the goals and standards of its founders.

Today, Midway University has achieved its goal of excellence in education, providing advanced instruction in a broad range of subjects based upon a strong liberal arts curriculum. The campus and programs have grown with the school’s enrollment, yet many of the traditional ideals Midway was founded on have remained constant. The college’s affiliation with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) remains strong and many members of the student body are active members of Christian Church congregations.

On May 12, 2016, the Midway University Board of Trustees voted to become fully coeducational in all of its undergraduate programs by fall 2016.

Mission Statement

Midway University shapes and inspires the lives of women and men in undergraduate and graduate programs through a student-centered, global education that leads to rewarding careers and responsible citizenship. (Adopted May 12, 2016)

Values

Midway University fosters core values shared by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and reflect the beliefs of our founder, Dr. L.L. Pinkerton. These values include:

1. Valuing the dignity of all people

2. Acting with integrity and responsibility

3. Viewing self as part of the community

4. Living life within a global context

5. Providing service to others

6. Pursuing life-long learning
