Job Title:Solutions Architect

Department:Health System Shared Services | Analytics Center of Excellence

Position Summary

The Solutions Architect serves as a top-level technical authority and architectural lead for complex enterprise data and analytics initiatives that align technology capabilities with clinical, operational, and strategic priorities. This role defines the target-state architecture, standards, patterns, and guardrails for secure, scalable, resilient, and cost-effective data platforms that support analytics, reporting, interoperability, and advanced AI/ML use cases.

This position partners closely with clinical and operational leaders, analytics teams, data engineering, data science, data governance, platform teams, security, vendors, and IT stakeholders to translate business capabilities and data requirements into sustainable enterprise architecture.

The Solutions Architect provides architectural oversight across the data lifecycle - ingestion, integration, transformation, modeling, storage, security, deployment, observability, and consumption - while establishing reusable standards and reference architectures. Recognized across the organization for expertise in data architecture, cloud and lakehouse strategy, engineering standards, governance, performance, and platform modernization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define enterprise architecture, reference patterns, and technical standards for data ingestion and integration (ETL/ELT) using technologies such as SQL and Python, ensuring solutions can support high-volume, high-complexity healthcare data.
  • Own and evolve the target-state lakehouse architecture using Azure services and Databricks, including architectural patterns for Delta Lake, scalability, workload isolation, performance optimization, resiliency, and cost management.
  • Establish architectural standards for medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold), including clear responsibilities for ingestion, standardization, integration, curated semantic data products, and downstream consumption.
  • Define enterprise data modeling and transformation standards using dbt (or equivalent) and proven modeling practices, including dimensional modeling, star schemas, conformed dimensions, semantic layers, and reusable data products.
  • Establish enterprise data quality, reliability, and observability architecture, including standards for automated testing, reconciliation, SLA/SLO monitoring, anomaly detection, lineage, metadata, and data contracts.
  • Define CI/CD architecture and release-management standards for data platforms, pipelines, and dbt projects, including Git-based workflows, automated quality gates, environment promotion, and deployment patterns using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or equivalent technologies.
  • Partner with reporting & analytics, data science, data governance, security, and platform systems & architecture teams to define trusted data access patterns, semantic standards, and self-service capabilities that accelerate insight delivery while maintaining appropriate governance and controls.
  • Lead architecture reviews and provide technical direction for security and privacy, identity and access, performance optimization, scalability, availability, disaster recovery, interoperability, and cloud cost management.
  • Develop and maintain reference architectures, architecture decision records, technical standards, data contracts, integration patterns, and architectural roadmaps; guide engineering teams in applying approved patterns consistently.
  • Coordinate architecture decisions across medical center and university entities; evaluate emerging technologies, external tools, and strategic partners through proofs of concept and architecture assessments to ensure alignment with enterprise standards and long-term technology strategy.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 6 years of relevant experience required. 8-12 years of relevant experience preferred of progressive experience in data architecture, data engineering, data warehousing, analytics engineering, or modern data platform design, including responsibility for technical design decisions and standards.
  • Demonstrated experience designing enterprise data architectures, integration patterns, data platforms, and scalable data solutions across multiple systems and business domains.
  • Demonstrated experience architecting solutions with Azure cloud data services and Databricks or comparable cloud-based data platform technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of lakehouse architecture, including Delta Lake, medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold), data product design, scalability, resiliency, and workload management.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise data modeling and data warehousing principles, including dimensional modeling, star schemas, conformed dimensions, semantic layers, and curated data domains.
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL, Python, dbt, or equivalent technologies sufficient to evaluate solution designs, establish engineering patterns, review implementations, and provide technical guidance.
  • Experience defining data quality, reliability, observability, and operational standards, including testing, reconciliation, monitoring, validation, SLAs/SLOs, and architecture governance.
  • Strong knowledge of data lineage, metadata management, security and privacy architecture, performance optimization, cloud cost management, data governance, and enterprise architecture practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead architecture discussions, communicate technical tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders, influence cross-functional teams, and establish standards that guide implementation across the enterprise.
