The Student Involvement department is seeking an Assistant Director, Student Organization Services to join the already awesome team taking the department to the next level of excellence! The Assistant Director, Student Organization Services for Student Involvement department will work on the Atlanta campus.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

Provides direct management and oversight for 500+ registered student organizations (RSOs) across 6 Georgia State campuses.  Advises student organization officers by developing educational and training programs in support of their organizational needs.  The role promotes student engagement beyond the classroom and will be critical to developing students, enhancing learning, building school spirit as well as increasing community and connectivity among students. 

Duties:

  • Provides a comprehensive array of programs and services to enhance the development of student leaders involved in registered student organizations (RSOs).

  • Provides RSO advising and support for RSO advisors for complex and higher level problems within RSOs.  Support advisor training initiatives for RSOs.

  • Supervises the Coordinator for Student Engagement - Student Organizations, the Administrative Specialist II and a Graduate Administrative Assistant.  Co-supervises and trains Student Life assistants who assist with promoting student involvement opportunities.

  • Work with the Coord., SOS to manage the RSO database system (Panther Involvement Network) and ensure that appropriate training is provided to students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders on all campuses.  

  • Establish the vision and purpose for the open use space provided for registered student organizations (RSOs) within Student Center West and provide a strategic plan for resources available to RSOs. 

  • Coordinate with Perimeter College Student Life staff to ensure cross-campus compliance with university policies for registered student organizations. 

  • Work with the Coord., SOS on the development and oversight of a comprehensive vision for registered student organizations, including the registration and renewal requirements and ongoing training programs.  Responsible for updating the RSO Handbook and iCollege training materials. 

  • Serves on the Rise & Lead Student Leadership Conference Planning Committee.

  • Assist the Director, Student Involvement in the development and implementation of a comprehensive vision for increasing student involvement on the Atlanta campus. 

  • Provide oversight for Fall & Spring involvement fair planning & execution. Actively participates as a collaborative member of various program planning committees within Student Engagement and Division of Student Success areas.

  • Manage the budget for student organization support. 

  • Collaborate with personnel managing budget processes for Student Organizations, including support for adequate training on the RSO budget request process, timely submission of payment requests and adequate use of event check-in resources for attendance tracking.    

  • Collaborate with colleagues to supervise risk reduction and prevention initiatives for registered student organizations, including fraternities and sororities, and Student Involvement programming. Facilitate security meetings for special and late-night events.

  • Serve as a first responder to crisis management and conflict resolution within registered student organizations, working collaboratively with the Dean of Students office to ensure compliance with university policies and maintenance of a safe campus community.  

  • Night and weekend commitments may occur 2-3 times per month during the academic year, less often during the summer months. 



Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree and three years of supervisory/management experience or a combination of training and experience.

Preferred Hiring Requirements:

Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling or related degreeExperience advising student organizations in a collegiate settingExperience supervising other professional non-student staffDemonstrated experience working with diverse populations of university students.Experience maximizing the use of organization management software such as Engage, Collegiate Link, or CampusGroups as a communication and marketing tool to promote campus activities. Also a working knowledge of various social media platforms. Able to sustain communication with diverse groups, anticipate problems, reconcile conflicts, and maintain a strong philosophical basis for student activities. Experience with the allocation and fund management of Student Activity Fees.Outstanding leadership, management, interpersonal, and project planning skills to relate and work with a variety of faculty, students, parents, staff, and community members.Willingness to work in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.Must have the ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects and activities, make effective use of resources, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision required.Ability to be adaptable, resourceful, and creative in their approaches to unique problems while prioritizing delivery of superior customer service.

The Georgia State Panthers are members of the Colonial Athletic Association and compete in 16 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men’s and women’s sports, including basketball, baseball, softball, golf, tennis, track and volleyball. The university announced in April 2008 that is will begin Division I-AA football in 2010.

The university’s innovative Touch the Earth program brings outdoor recreation ranging from backpacking, rock climbing, sailing, kayaking, rafting and water-skiing to out-of-state snow-skiing and snorkeling trips. And WRAS, Georgia State’s popular 100,000-watt radio voice, is the most powerful student-run radio station in the United States.
