Job SummaryThe Engagement and Service Student Assistant supports the daily operations, programs, and initiatives of the Center for Student Involvement and Inclusion (CSII). Responsibilities include administrative support, event coordination, and student engagement across campus traditions, student organizations, leadership, and service initiatives. Student Assistants represent CSII while developing professional skills in communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership.
ResponsibilitiesAdministrative and Office Support
- Assist with daily departmental operations, including answering phones, responding to general inquiries, organizing materials, preparing documents, and supporting office communications
- Provide front desk coverage as assigned, including greeting visitors, taking messages, and directing students, staff, and guests to appropriate resources or personnel
- Support departmental staff with scheduling, reservations, purchasing documentation, supply requests, and other administrative tasks
- Maintain accurate records, spreadsheets, attendance information, and departmental files
- Assist with monitoring and organizing departmental supplies, equipment, and inventory.
- Maintain familiarity with CSII programs, services, university resources, and relevant policies to provide accurate information and referrals
Complete assigned projects and other duties that support departmental priorities
Student Engagement and Technology Support
- Assist with the administration of WolfConnect, including event postings, attendance uploads, organization information, and general platform support
- Provide basic assistance to Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), student leaders, and advisors regarding campus involvement opportunities and university processes
- Support student engagement initiatives designed to increase awareness of and participation in campus programs and activities
Assist with collecting, entering, organizing, and reviewing participation data, event assessments, and student feedback
Event and Program Support
- Assist with the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of CSII programs, events, and campus traditions
- Support event logistics, including space reservations, preparation of materials, vendor communication, and coordination with campus partners
- Assist with event setup, check-in, attendee tracking, crowd flow, distribution of promotional materials, and event breakdown
- Provide on-site support during programs, including assisting participants, addressing general questions, and communicating operational needs to professional staff
- Assist with developing event ideas, activities, educational components, and student engagement opportunities
- Support event assessments by collecting attendance, administering surveys, and organizing post-event documentation
- Follow university policies, departmental procedures, and established safety protocols during events and activities
- Work occasional evenings and weekends to support programs and major university events
Equipment, Inventory, and Operational Support
- Assist with transporting, organizing, setting up, and storing departmental supplies and event equipment
- Conduct inventory checks and help maintain organized storage areas
- Assist with assembling event materials, displays, decorations, and equipment using approved tools and procedures
- Operate university golf carts when authorized and properly trained, following all university safety requirements
- Report damaged equipment, safety concerns, or operational issues to appropriate staff
- Must be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours at the University of West Georgia
- Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to interact professionally with students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors
- Availability to work during regular university business hours, with occasional required evenings and weekends
- Must possess a valid, non-provisional driver's license and meet university requirements for operating university vehicles
- Must be available to work a minimum of 10 hours per week, primarily Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Must be available for designated evening and weekend programs, including required departmental events and training
- Student Assistants are expected to maintain a consistent work schedule of at least 10 hours per week during the academic semester, subject to departmental scheduling needs and student employment policies
- Most regularly scheduled shifts occur Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
- Evening and weekend availability is required for designated departmental programs, campus traditions, and special events
- Student Assistants are expected to attend required training sessions, team meetings, and designated departmental events
Work schedules and changes must be coordinated and approved by the appropriate supervisor
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout campus during events and assigned activities
- Ability to assist with moving, lifting, and transporting event supplies and equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments, including varying weather conditions during campus events
- Ability to perform duties involving event setup, breakdown, and extended periods of activity
- Experience with event planning, student organizations, leadership programs, community service, or campus involvement
