Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

Since 1966, researchers at the Carolina Population Center have pioneered data collection and research techniques that move population science forward by emphasizing life course approaches, longitudinal surveys, the integration of biological measurement into social surveys, and attention to context and environment. We are also at the forefront of creating interdisciplinary training programs that integrate approaches from the social and biological sciences, building research capacity and training the next generation of scholars. Our faculty fellows address pressing research questions about population dynamics, fertility, health, mortality, migration, and the environment. Faculty come from multiple disciplines, benefitting from the cross-pollination of ideas. Position Summary:

The National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health (Add Health), housed and administered at the Carolina Population Center (CPC) is a comprehensive nationally representative longitudinal study that started in 1994-95 when our participants were adolescents, and was the first study to follow more than 20,000 young people from their teenage years into adulthood; over six waves of data collection to date. Over the 32 year long and continuing project, Add Health has and continues to collect rich demographic, social, familial, behavioral, psychosocial, cognitive, and health survey data from participants and their parents; a vast array of contextual data from participants’ schools, neighborhoods, and geographies of residence; and in-home physical and biological data from participants, including genetic markers, blood-based assays, anthropometric measures, and medications.

The primary purpose of the Add Health Assistant Project Manager is to assist with overseeing data collection, ancillary studies, lab coordination, and information management activities for the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health (Add Health). The Add Health Assistant Project Manager will utilize comprehensive knowledge and expertise to drive a variety of project activities. They will apply advanced knowledge of research and lab processes and principles to maintain responsibility for co-leading fieldwork activities, report creation and interpretation, and overall data quality assurance. This role will be instrumental in the design and execution of strategies for improving respondent communications, leading literature reviews, managing IRB submissions, editing and formatting manuscripts, and organizing the development of questionnaires and fieldwork protocols. In terms of data handling, the Add Health Assistant Project Manager at this level will have the ability to design data/information collection procedures, identify and report variations in data, and create new research tools as necessary. They will analyze and reconcile data from different internal and external sources, necessitating full knowledge of statistics and related information technology. The Add Health Assistant Project Manager will provide advanced synthesis and organization of data from various sources, including the creation of complex reports, and making recommendations based on their findings. Communication, research skills, and leadership will be key in this role. The Add Health Assistant Project Manager will be expected to effectively share project updates, present at team and staff meetings, and serve as the primary presenter to various audiences. They will have the ability to interpret findings, make informed recommendations, train project research assistants, and lead consultations. In the role of organizational and analytical support, the Add Health Assistant Project Manager must possess the advanced skills to concurrently manage multiple complex tasks, coordinate schedules for a multitude of investigators and staff, communicate in a professional manner with research partners, lab personnel, and university resources, and oversee the procurement and management of study materials, biomarker specimen collection kits, website design, and large-scale mailings. These duties will require the Add Health Assistant Project Manager to be a hybrid position with several days a week in office at CPC with other Add Health staff members.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Management Preferences:

* Advanced graphics, editing, and academic formatting (manuscripts, books, presentations, citations) skills.
* Demonstrated experience working with multiple data collection partners.
* Prior experience in assisting or coordinating large research projects, particularly in a public health-related field.
* Familiarity with research design, protocols, and compliance standards.

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina.
