Description:The selected individual will report to the Museum’s Director of Education and team teach with another museum educator. The Hofstra University Museum of Art seeks a dynamic, experienced, part-time education professional (up to 20 hours per week) with a passion for teaching and learning, working in a non-traditional teaching environment, and a dedication to advancing skills and knowledge for young people in grades 5, 7, and 9. The after-school program takes place in the Museum galleries and the Museum Cultural Arts Lab, with occasional visits to other areas of the University. Afternoon hours required – the program takes place Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:30pm-5:30pm. Additional program planning hours are required and flexible.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Works with the Museum’s education staff in developing and implementing the grant-funded afterschool program, 21st Century Community Learning Centers. This innovative program connects works of art to the lives of middle and high school students, providing engaging and inspiring experiences in the arts.
- Supports education initiatives and programming.
- Works as a team member.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- A dynamic teacher with 1-3 years active and appropriate teaching experience.
- Team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Creative and flexible thinker.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Successful candidates will have demonstrated a commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in an educational environment.
● Candidates who have evidence of non-traditional, creative, and inquiry-based approaches to teaching and/or experience as a teaching artist.● Previous experience with middle and high school-aged young people.● Digital media experience.
