Job Summary
Under the supervision of the manager/supervisor in the Operations and Maintenance department, this is skilled work in a wide variety of trade tasks in the areas of electrical, refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, ventilating, plumbing and general maintenance as well as repair of buildings, equipment and in simple construction and fabrication tasks. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM. Weekend work (Saturday and Sunday), overtime, on-call, and emergency callback is required.
Responsibilities
Maintenance - 50%
Performs a wide variety of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and building maintenance related tasks. May assist carpenters, painters, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and electricians in their assigned duties.
Repairs - 20%
Work both independently and with supervision as needed on various building related repair and installation projects in the Operations and Maintenance department.
Inventory - 15%
Maintain shop areas, mechanical rooms, stock, supplies and manage waste generated from work tasks.
Compliance - 5%
Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
Other - 10%
Any other duties and tasks assigned or as required to meet the goals of the department, division, and Georgia College & State University.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
High school diploma or GED.
Other Required Qualifications
Ability to operate a computer or iPad in order to receive and send email and submit work orders.
Valid driver's license.
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
Ability to climb 50 feet working from ladders, scaffoling, and staging.
Required Experience
Two to four years of general maintenance or preventative maintenance experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Lift Operator Certification, Certified Pool Operator, Universal EPA Refrigerant certification
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Trade school certificate in Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, or Construction related field
Proposed Salary
This position is a pay grade 5. The available salary range is $14.82/hour ($30,825 annually) to $16.50/hour ($34,316 annually). Starting salary within this range is based on relevant years of experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
ABILITIES
Effectively communicate through email, orally, and in writing. Read written materials, work instructions, safety procedures and material data safety sheets. A person working in this classification will need to be able to grasp, lift, carry, and set down heavy objects (50-75lb) objects daily. A person working in this classification will need to be able to climb (on an average of 50+feet), and work from ladders, scaffolding and staging daily. Ability to operate a vehicle
KNOWLEDGE
Comprehend technical manuals and blueprints. Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC and refrigeration systems.
SKILLS
Use of tools and equipment in the repair and maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment. Use power tools including but not limited to circular and reciprocating saws, sanders, and grinders, drills, pipe thread machine, sewer machine, welder, acetylene torch, cut-off saw, and various hand tools and wrenches, electrical testing devices, and voltage meters.
