POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the area of Global Economics. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must have earned a PhD in Economics by the time of the appointment, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. The Committee encourages applications from across the discipline but is particularly interested in scholars whose work engages with economic policy and/or reflects a deep understanding of global economics. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing strengths.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can include a record of sustained high-impact publications in top-ranked and/or field-relevant academic outlets, the submitted research statement, awards or accolades, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier (including the required materials outlined below) and strong letters of reference.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be expected to pursue, produce and publish innovative and independent scholarly research, and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.

In addition, the successful candidate will be assigned a service and teaching load that includes teaching economics to students from a wide range of academic backgrounds in the Munk School’s undergraduate and professional graduate programs (the Master of Global Affairs and the Master of Public Policy).

HIRING SALARY RANGE

The expected salary range is $130,000 to $170,000 CAD per annum, depending on experience. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
