Educational and Experience Requirement:

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or a related field, current Registered Nurse (RN) Licensure from the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners. Four years of experience in Nursing or a related field. Clinical education and student coaching experience is desirable. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position:

Performs highly complex administrative and supervisory program work and works directly with students to improve academic performance through individual and group supports and the coordination of SHSU resources for student success.

Primary Responsibilities:

Implements best practice models for the support of nursing student academic success, analyzing and interpreting data to establish an evidenced-based program to increase the retention rate of nursing students. Creates and sustains a supportive student-focused, non-threatening environment for behavioral change related to academic success. Documents student goals, individual learning/performance/remediation plans, and behavioral outcomes. Assists students in identifying academic strengths, challenges, and learning styles to develop a strategic study plan for reaching academic goals. Assists students by providing strategies for academic success and personal well-being. Directly coaches and tutors nursing students and support remediation processes. Collaborates with faculty to coordinate improvements in curricular design and development and promote student advocacy. Collaborates with SHSU academic support resources to create value for School of Nursing (SON) students. Coordinates with Services for Students with Disabilities to support student success. Continuously improves the academic coaching role and related processes at the SON. Positively engages students for their success and wellness. Coordinates with SON Advisor to design and implement programs focused on wholistic student wellness. Provides holistic student support by acting as a liaison for the student and student support services. Promotes continuous quality improvement, participates in the planning and launch of new student‑support initiatives, such as Start‑Up Bootcamp programming, academic recovery courses, and targeted workshops on study skills and resilience. Provides implementation‑stage feedback based on direct student interaction, helping identify early adjustments needed to improve clarity, accessibility, and student engagement as initiatives roll out. Contributes to the development of workflows, resource guides, and documentation that support the transition of new initiatives from launch or pilot status into ongoing operations. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications:

Previous student coaching experience with individuals and small groups preferred. Prior experience remediating students with academic difficulties. Previous experience working directly with faculty and curricular issues preferred. Experience working with students or customer groups. Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws. Ability to supervise business functions. Communicates with other University departments, personnel, and other agencies.
