Job Summary The Department of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) at Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) is now accepting applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Film beginning August 2027. Priority reviews of candidates will begin on November 6, but the position will remain open and accepting applications until filled.

GGC is located in the Atlanta Metropolitan area, which has become home to one of the nation's most vibrant and innovative film and media hubs.Formed in 2022, VAPA is an exciting, multidisciplinary program and currently offers a wide variety of courses in film, theater, music, and visual arts to over 500 undergraduate majors. The Department houses a Bachelor of Arts in Cinema and Media Arts Production with concentrations in: Design & Production, Writing for Stage & Screen and Entertainment Industries Studies. Additionally, there are minors in: Film, Musical Studies, Theatre, Visual Arts, and 5 specialized 2-year Nexus Degrees. Candidates with strong skills in film/media studies and/or production will be considered.

Full-Time faculty positions are 10-month, contracted positions and report directly to the Department Chair. Full-time faculty teach in the fall and spring, with the option of teaching summer semesters when appropriate and demand exists. Classes at Georgia Gwinnett College are offered morning, afternoon and evening, including weekends.

Responsibilities

Essential Function 1 -
Developing course curricula, including the syllabus, lesson plans, and graded assignment

Essential Function 2 -
Program development in high impact areas and industry trends

Essential Function 3 -
Reviewing, evaluating and recommending student learning materials

Essential Function 4 -
Evaluating students to measure their progress in achieving institutional and course goals

Essential Function 5 -
Timely and accurate submission of required paperwork related to instruction

Essential Function 6 -
Serving on department and college-wide committees

Essential Function 7 -
Engaging with students on campus through extracurricular activities

Essential Function 8 -
Formal advising of students regarding course planning and career readiness

Required Qualifications

Qualified candidates will hold a terminal degree (M.F.A., or Ph.D.) in an appropriate film discipline, with a strong professional track record in service and student engagement, and evidence of creative and/or academic scholarship in their chosen area of focus.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-year college-level teaching
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide range of students, both majors and non-majors
  • Sustained professional engagement that demonstrates relevance and currency in the field of teaching and research/creative activities
  • Ability to teach a variety of courses that support the Cinema & Media Arts Production Major, including Introduction to Film, Film History and Film Genres
