About the College/Unit/Department:The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. The college benefits pets and their owners, food-producing animals, and wildlife by offering the highest quality hospital and diagnostic laboratory services. Equipped with the most technologically advanced facilities located on a university campus, the college is dedicated to safeguarding public health by studying emerging infectious diseases that affect both animal and human health.
The Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery consists of 50 faculty members, 50 clinical residents, 10 rotating interns, 8 specialty interns, and 3 administrative staff members. Shared laboratory space and technical support are provided within the department, and there are 7 dedicated research technicians who assist in the research missions of the department’s faculty. The Department participates in the college-wide M.S. and Ph.D. programs. Members of the department also actively participate in highly successful collaborative efforts with faculty members from other departments within the college and other colleges on campus, including the College of Public Health, College of Engineering, and the Athens campus of the Medical College of Georgia. The department has a strong track record for teaching, research, and clinical service.
The University of Georgia, the nation’s first chartered state-supported university, is a research-intensive land grant and sea grant university situated in the vibrant college town of Athens. Only an hour from Atlanta, Athens is a progressive locale with a rich history and is centered among beautiful surrounding landscapes. The area abounds in local music, art, literature, and theatre and hosts many performances by national and international touring artists. The cost of living in Athens compares favorably with much of the rest of the country, ranking lower than the U.S. average (http://www.bestplaces.net/city/georgia/athens-clarke_county). Additional information about the Athens area can be found at http://www.visitathensga.com/.
The College of Veterinary Medicine values all members of the university community, recognizing that differences in experience and culture can only lead to a more well-rounded, accepting academic environment as embodied in our Principles of Community.

Position Summary:The Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Georgia, invites applications for a clinical (non-tenure) track faculty position in veterinary neurology at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor.
The major responsibilities of this position will be to teach and provide service in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, to teach pre-clinical didactic and laboratory courses in neurology to veterinary students, and to actively participate in the training of neurology and non-neurology house officers. Proportionate assignments for each area are based on the interests of the candidate, faculty assignment, and the missions of the neurology program and department.

The service enjoys ready access to a Siemens 3.0T MRI unit, 3rd generation 128-slice helical CT, Nicolet electrophysiological testing equipment (EMG, nerve conduction, and EEG), fluoroscopy, intraoperative C-arm, digital radiography, an ultrasonic aspirator and a Medtronic Stealth Trio stereotactic biopsy unit. This active clinical service provides medical neurology and neurosurgical care for approximately 500-600 new referral cases per year. The service is supported by 3 registered veterinary technicians (one technician has VTS certification in neurology. A second technician is in the process of obtaining VTS specialization in neurology). The neurology service benefits from collegial relations and the support of the other hospital services including oncology, radiation therapy, surgery, anesthesia, and critical care.
