Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:The goal of the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (HPDP) is to prevent chronic disease and reduce health disparities. Investigators and staff at HPDP work with communities to conduct research, provide training and translate research findings into policy and practice. Research areas include nutrition and physical activity, cardiovascular health, diabetes, obesity, healthy food access, cancer prevention and control, children’s health, rural health, and health equity. HPDP is part of a network of 26 CDC Prevention Research Centers across the United States.
The UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (HPDP) was established in 1985. The Center’s mission is to improve the health of people in North Carolina and the Southeast through interdisciplinary research, teaching, and public service. Particular emphasis is paid to the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged populations. The Center is supported by funding from the five Health Affairs schools, the Office of the Associate Provost for Health Affairs, federal competitive research grants, private foundation grants, and contractual agreements.
The Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network (CPCRN) is a national network of academic, public health, and community partners who work together to reduce the burden of cancer, especially among those disproportionately affected. Its members conduct community-based participatory cancer research across its eight network centers, crossing academic affiliations and geographic boundaries. The CPCRN is a thematic research network of the Prevention Research Centers (PRCs), which is CDC’s flagship program for preventing and controlling chronic diseases
The Consortium for Cancer Implementation Science (CCIS), a national network of more than 1,000 researchers, clinicians, and community partners, focuses on cancer control priorities, cross-collaboration, and innovative solutions in implementation science (IS). Originally established by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in 2019, CCIS brings the field together to address key challenges, identify and develop new areas of investigation, and advance the IS agenda in cancer control.
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
The Project Coordinator will provide project coordination, administrative, and communications support to two national networks: the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network (CPCRN) Coordinating Center, located within the Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (HPDP), and the Consortium for Cancer Implementation Science (CCIS) Coordinating Center, located within the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The Project Coordinator will support the planning and coordination of projects, meetings, events, and communications, working with team members and partners across multiple organizations. The ideal candidate is highly organized and detail-oriented, communicates proactively, and enjoys working behind the scenes to keep complex projects moving. This position requires the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines, work both independently and collaboratively, and reliably follow tasks through to completion.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating meetings, webinars, conferences, and special events, including logistics, materials development, and follow-up.
- Fostering collaboration and engagement among Consortium/network members, workgroups, and partners.
- Maintaining project management systems, documentation, reporting processes, and shared resources to ensure efficient operations.
- Supporting data collection, survey administration, and evaluation activities to monitor progress and inform decision-making.
- Developing and distributing content and promotional materials across digital communication channels, including websites, newsletters, email, and social media.
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Management Preferences:- Experience, coursework, or demonstrated interest in public health, health research, or related areas.
- Experience with website content management, digital communications, graphic design, or content creation.
- Experience or demonstrated interest in project coordination or project management.
- At least one year of experience supporting research, programs, projects, or collaborative teams.
- Familiarity with or interest in learning a range of collaboration, project management, and communications tools, including Microsoft 365, Google Drive, Box, Smartsheet, Canva, Mailchimp/Mailerlite, and major social media platforms.

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina. Chapel Hill is at the western point of the Research Triangle, an area of about one million people, comprised of Chapel Hill, the cities of Durham and Raleigh, and the Research Triangle Park, home of many corporate offices and scientific research centers.
