Description:

Reporting to the Director of Public Safety for Campus Transportation, the Part-Time Shuttle Bus Driver plays a vital role in supporting the University’s transportation system by providing safe, reliable, and courteous shuttle service to students, faculty, and staff. Drivers operate University vehicles along designated campus and off-campus routes while delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism.

Drivers are required to wear the prescribed uniform while on duty and must be available to work overtime, as needed.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Safely transports students, faculty, staff, and other members of the University community along designated shuttle routes.
  • Provides courteous, professional, and customer-focused service to all passengers.
  • Conducts required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure vehicles are safe and operating properly.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and overall appearance of assigned vehicles.
  • Adheres to all University policies, New York State traffic laws, and Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Promptly reports vehicle maintenance issues, accidents, or safety concerns.
  • Assists passengers as appropriate while ensuring a safe boarding and exiting process.
  • Maintains accurate records and completes required reports.
  • Supports special events, campus programs, and other transportation assignments as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Hours: Shift assignments are awarded in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement and based on department operational needs. Newly hired Part-Time Bus Drivers will be required to work 22 ½ hours per week. Work schedules will vary depending on the University’s transportation demands. Candidates must be available to work evenings and weekends, as these are critical periods for shuttle operations. Additional hours, including overtime, may be required to support special events, campus programs, and other departmental transportation needs.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience.
  • Valid New York State CDL Class B Drivers license with:
    ● Passenger (P) Endorsement
    ● Air Brake Qualification
    ● No restrictions affecting passenger vehicle operation
  • Safe driving record with no significant violations.
  • Ability to interact professionally with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, visitors, and community members.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of safety, professionalism, and reliability.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience operating passenger shuttle buses in a university, municipal, transit, or hospitality environment.
  • Familiarity with campus transportation operations and customer service best practices.
  • Experience working in a diverse and inclusive environment.
