Job Details
Perform library functions including but not limited to circulation of materials, maintaining course reserves, processing interlibrary loan requests, facility management, and basic reference services. Oversee stacks maintenance duties to ensure accurate organization of the libraries’ collections. Act as the liaison between Denison Libraries and campus facilities units. Open and/or close the library for daily operations, as the only staff member on duty at times. Perform a wide variety of technical duties and provide customer assistance in support of library services, using thorough knowledge of established library procedures and proficiency with library services platforms.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide initial screening to library users and advanced service with locating and circulating materials, reserving equipment, using library computers or software, and other access services functionsProcess resource sharing and interlibrary loan requests to facilitate the lending and borrowing of physical and electronic materials between Denison Libraries and other institutions. Assist in retrieving, cataloging, and maintaining course reservesOversee reservations and maintenance of study carrels, lockers, and other library spacesHire, train, and mentor student employees to assist in stacks maintenance and circulation functionsMaintain library stacks to ensure items are shelved accurately with adequate spacing to accommodate growing collections. Perform shifting of materials and update wayfinding signage as needed to accommodate space needsMaintain stock of all print materials for circulation (wayfinding signage, library contracts, OhioLINK bands, library labels, stacks guides, etc.)Communicate all building-related issues to library staff/Facilities Services/campus community as needed. Oversee work orders, moving/hauling requests, and other communications with the Facilities department.Provide assistance in answering research and reference questions from patrons, referring to subject area liaisons when necessaryPractice thorough working knowledge of all library and university policies, procedures, standards, and codes. Follow established guidelines and procedures Participate in or lead standing committees and working groups to support library initiativesPerform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Three years of college and two years of library work experience, or equivalent combination.One year of supervisory experienceExcellent organizational skills, ability to follow through on problems, and outstanding oral and written communications skillsBasic level of computer literacy including the ability to identify and correct minor computer hardware problems and to clearly define computer problems for IT Help Desk personnel. Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to a variety of software applications.

- Bachelor’s degree3-5 years of work experience as a library staff member

- Must be able to navigate the library.Must be able to push book trucks weighing approx. 50 lbs.
