Description of Work:The Psychology Department at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is recruiting a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Addiction Science who studies antecedents, processes, and/or consequences of substance use and/or misuse. Potential areas of interest include but are not limited to developmental trajectories and/or aging processes; biological and neurobehavioral mechanisms, including human or animal models; social and interpersonal processes; addiction-related cognition and decision-making; risk and resilience factors such as trauma, stress, or comorbidity with mental health disorders; and addiction-related prevention, treatment, policy, and laws. Experience with advanced quantitative approaches is welcome but not required for the position.
Responsibilities include maintaining an active research program, including the pursuit of external funding, and teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in addiction and substance use. Given that addiction and substance use are integral to a number of other disciplines, the successful candidate could be a valuable contributor to multidisciplinary research efforts involving multiple units on campus (e.g., Center for Brain, Biology & Behavior; Rural Drug Addiction Research Center; Minority Health Disparities Initiative; Nebraska Athletic Performance Lab; Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families, and Schools; Center on Children, Families, and the Law; the College of Education and Human Sciences; the Law School). - Ph.D. in psychology or a related field is required by the start date.
- Research experience in addiction science and/or substance use.
- A successful history of scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Research interests that connect to the Rural Drug Use Addiction Research Center.
- Teaching experience in psychology or related areas.
- Evidence of the ability to work effectively with students from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
- Relevant experience post-Ph.D.
- Experience with advanced quantitative approaches.
- Research interests that complement current faculty expertise (e.g., cognitive psychology, clinical psychology, developmental psychology, law-psychology, neuroscience, or social psychology).
- A successful history of external and/or internal funding.
- Evidence of mentoring students in a research setting.
- Teaching experience in the field of addiction science or substance use.
