Position Summary:

Position Summary:

This position supports science laboratory courses, with primary responsibilities focused on laboratory preparation for Biology courses, including BSCI 150 and BSCI 160, as well as Anatomy and Physiology laboratories. The Part-Time Variable Schedule (PTVS) Science Laboratory Technician provides technical and preparation support to science faculty and the Science Laboratory Manager while maintaining a safe, clean, organized, and well-equipped laboratory environment.

Responsibilities include preparing laboratory materials, solutions, reagents, samples, and equipment; maintaining inventory; cleaning and organizing laboratories; handling laboratory waste; and providing general technical support to faculty. The position works under the supervision of the Science Laboratory Manager and requires the ability to follow established procedures, work independently, manage multiple tasks, and work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Work hours will vary based on laboratory schedules, semester preparation needs, and course requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are the functions essential to performing this job:

1. Prepare chemical solutions, reagents, samples, supplies, and equipment for assigned science courses following established procedures and safety requirements.
2. Prepare weekly laboratory materials for BSCI 150 and BSCI 160, including molecular biology activities requiring micropipetting, agarose gels, buffers, and other laboratory techniques.
3. Support Anatomy and Physiology laboratory preparation, including counting specimens before each semester, identifying needed materials, preparing agar plates and simple solutions, and organizing supplies.
4. Maintain and monitor laboratory equipment, including refrigerators, freezers, microscopes, fume hoods, balances, and micropipettes; report equipment issues to the Science Laboratory Manager.
5. Maintain inventory of supplies, reagents, specimens, and equipment; identify shortages and communicate ordering needs to the Science Laboratory Manager.
6. Receive, inspect, organize, and document laboratory deliveries and restock laboratories and preparation areas as needed.
7. Clean and organize laboratory and preparation areas, including disinfecting work surfaces, washing glassware, and returning supplies and equipment to designated locations.
8. Handle and document biohazardous and chemical waste according to established College procedures and safety requirements.
9. Assist the Science Laboratory Manager with semester preparation, inventory, package receiving, safety tasks, and other laboratory activities as needed.
10. Provide technical support to faculty and communicate laboratory preparation needs, supply shortages, equipment concerns, and safety issues to the Science Laboratory Manager and appropriate staff.
11. Maintain required preparation and inventory records and follow College policies, procedures, and laboratory safety protocols.
12. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

1. Associate degree or higher in biology, chemistry, physical sciences, or a related discipline.
2. At least one (1) year of laboratory experience; relevant academic laboratory experience may be considered.
3. Basic knowledge of laboratory safety, equipment, and preparation of solutions and reagents.
4. Ability to accurately follow written procedures and work independently with appropriate direction.
5. Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students in a diverse educational environment.
6. Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Outlook.




Desired Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, physical sciences, or a related discipline.
2. Experience supporting instructional or educational laboratories.
3. Experience preparing laboratory materials, solutions, reagents, biological samples, agarose gels, or buffers.
4. Familiarity with micropipettes and basic molecular biology techniques.
5. Experience with Anatomy and Physiology, Forensic Biology, molecular biology, or general biology laboratories.

Variable Schedule: preferably from 9:00 AM-1:00 PM, Monday-Friday.
