Essential Job Duties:NC Cooperative Extension in Cabarrus County is seeking an Extension EFNEP Program Assistant. The Extension EFNEP Program Assistant (PA) serves as an employee of NC Cooperative Extension and NC State University and delivers nutrition education to limited-resource adults, families, and school-aged youth who meet federal eligibility requirements for participation in the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP). Under the overall supervision of the County Extension Director (CED) and with programmatic guidance from the Regional Nutrition Extension Associate (RNEA), the EFNEP PA implements approved nutrition education curricula and teaching methods in individual and group settings.
The position recruits and enrolls eligible participants, with an emphasis on reaching Spanish-speaking families, and provides practical instruction in nutrition, food preparation, and related healthy living practices in both English and Spanish. The EFNEP PA also works collaboratively with Cooperative Extension personnel, community agencies, and partner organizations to expand program outreach, recruit volunteers, connect participants with additional resources, and enhance the visibility and impact of EFNEP within the assigned service area.

- Recruit, screen, and enroll eligible limited-resource adults, families with young children, and school-aged youth in EFNEP, with an emphasis on reaching Spanish-speaking families.
- Deliver approved EFNEP nutrition education curricula in individual and group settings using established program methods and materials in both English and Spanish.
- Conduct food demonstrations and provide instruction in basic nutrition, food preparation, food safety, and related healthy living practices.
- Conduct regular teaching visits with enrolled participants in home, community, school, and other group settings.
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of NC Cooperative Extension and its educational role in communities.
- Coordinate with local Cooperative Extension staff, including Family and Consumer Sciences and 4-H personnel, to support program goals and address community needs.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with agencies and organizations serving EFNEP-eligible audiences to expand outreach and program participation.
- Promote EFNEP and other relevant Cooperative Extension educational opportunities to eligible audiences, program participants, community partners, and local stakeholders.
- Recruit, train, and engage community volunteers in program marketing, data collection, outreach, and program delivery activities.
- Collect, maintain, and submit required participant, program, and impact data and reports to the RNEA, EFNEP State Office, and CED in accordance with program requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality of participant and program information.
- Communicate program activities, outcomes, and impacts to community partners, local stakeholders, and potential participants to enhance program visibility.
- Participate in required EFNEP meetings, trainings, professional development, and other learning opportunities as directed by the RNEA, CED, District Extension Director, or EFNEP State Office.
- Maintain programmatic knowledge and skills through ongoing professional development and implementation of current EFNEP guidance, curricula, and practices.
- Travel throughout the assigned county, district, and state to conduct program activities, attend meetings and trainings, and fulfill other position responsibilities. Some travel may require overnight stays.
- Use a personal vehicle for required work-related travel; a personal vehicle is required for this position.
- Meet established EFNEP program standards, performance expectations, participation goals, and impact targets.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The EFNEP PA assists with broader NC Cooperative Extension efforts by supporting community outreach, connecting program participants with additional Extension and community resources, and contributing to collaborative initiatives that address local nutrition and family needs. The position may assist with securing program resources and supporting special projects or activities that advance EFNEP and county Extension priorities.

Minimum Experience/Education:The minimum requirement for employment with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension (NCCE) is a high-school diploma or equivalent.
Department Required Skills:Bilingual-fluent in English and Spanish, written and verbal required.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education:- Knowledge of the community and social service programs for limited resource families
- Experience teaching and/or working with limited resource adults; and/or nutrition education experience preferred.
Valid Driver’s License and reliable, personal transportation required and must be maintained. Valid North Carolina driver’s license is required within 60 days of hire.
