Summary
The Department of Psychology at Bowling Green State University invites applications for a full-time, nine-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin August 9th 2027 in Cognitive Science, within our Neural and Cognitive Sciences graduate program. Competitive applicants will have expertise in basic research in fundamental fields within cognitive science which may include memory, learning, conditioning, neuroscience, computational neural networks, decision-making and/or large language models.
Information about Program and College The Department of Psychology is located within the College of Arts and Sciences. The vision for our College, aligned with the university’s strategic plan, is to ensure that our students graduate career-ready to meet the world’s challenges, and that our faculty research and creative activity contribute to the public good. We achieve this through robust collaboration across departmental boundaries, with particular attention given to increasing experiential learning for our undergraduate and graduate students and connecting our scholarly and creative work to the needs of our region. We are especially interested in recruiting candidates who can contribute excellence in teaching, scholarly/creative work, and/or service toward achieving excellence throughout the university and to the greater community. Essential Functions
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses; supervise Master’s and PhD student research • Maintain an active research program that results in publishing in peer-reviewed journals; aggressively seek external funding to support research
• Provide service to the Department, College, University, and profession
Minimum Qualifications
• Ph.D. in Cognitive Science, Cognitive Psychology, or Neuroscience-related field • Demonstrated research productivity (peer-reviewed journal articles)
• Experience as teaching assistant and/or instructor for undergraduate psychology courses
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience teaching undergraduate cognitive psychology courses such as cognitive science or cognitive neuroscience
• Experience applying for and obtaining external funding
• Research related to brain and mental health, and/or use or study of artificial intelligence
• Expertise potentially contributing to multiple graduate programs in psychology (Neural and Cognitive Sciences, Industrial-Organizational Psychology, and Clinical Psychology)
