Job Description:
The Student Success and College Readiness Coordinator supports the academic achievement, college readiness, career exploration, and postsecondary success of STEP participants. The Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for student success initiatives by providing academic coaching, coordinating student support services, monitoring student progress, and assisting students in preparing for college and careers in STEM, health-related fields, and licensed professions. The position also maintains student records, tracks participation and outcomes, and supports assessment, reporting, and continuous improvement activities.
Primary Responsibilities:
Student Success and Academic Achievement
- Lead and supervise support staff while directly providing academic coaching and student success support to students at two local middle schools and two local high schools.
- Supervise the student advisors and student tutors, including assigning responsibilities, coordinating service delivery, providing guidance, and supporting student success initiatives.
- Monitor student academic progress, participation, and engagement.
- Coordinate tutoring, mentoring, academic support, and intervention services.
- Support student retention, persistence, and program completion efforts.
- Assist in the development and implement individualized student success strategies, as appropriate.
College and Career Readiness
- Coordinate college tours, campus visits, and college exploration activities.
- Assist students with college applications, scholarship opportunities, FAFSA completion, and financial aid literacy.
- Coordinate career exploration and STEM pathway programming.
- Facilitate workshops focused on leadership, professional skills, networking, and workforce readiness.
- Support dual enrollment and early college awareness initiatives.
Data Management, Assessment, and Reporting
- Maintain participant databases and student records.
- Track enrollment, attendance, participation, retention, graduation, scholarship, and postsecondary outcomes.
- Administer surveys and assessment tools.
- Collaborate with the Director to review and analyze student outcome data to identify trends and inform strategies that support student success, retention, persistence, and postsecondary outcomes.
- Assist the Director and Assistant Director in preparing monthly, semester, and annual student outcome and participation reports.
- Compile and organize student outcome data to support NYSED Annual Performance Reports and grant reporting requirements.
- Maintain documentation supporting compliance and evaluation efforts.
Partnership and Student Engagement
- Serve as a liaison to assigned schools and student populations.
- Support recruitment and outreach efforts.
- Collaborate with counselors, teachers, families, and community partners to coordinate student support services and promote student success.
- Assist with family engagement and communication initiatives; as needed.
Assessment and Continuous Improvement
- Monitor program effectiveness using quantitative and qualitative data.
- Assist the Director in developing systems that strengthen sustainability and institutional knowledge.
- Prepare draft reports and presentations for university leadership, NYSED, and stakeholders.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- One year experience in student affairs, college access, counseling, advising, educational support services, or related fields.
- Experience collecting, maintaining, and utilizing student data to support assessment, reporting, and student success initiatives.
- Ability to organize information, manage multiple priorities, and maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Experience working with students from a variety of educational, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with students, families, school personnel, and community partners.
- Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to student success, college access, and educational equity.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting middle school and high school students through college readiness, career exploration, or postsecondary planning initiatives.
- Experience coordinating, leading, mentoring, supervising, or training staff, student employees, tutors, interns, or volunteers.
- Experience with student information systems, databases, or data management platforms.
- Knowledge of college admissions, financial aid, scholarship opportunities, and postsecondary pathways.
- Experience working with historically underrepresented and underserved student populations.
- Experience supporting grant-funded educational programs or initiatives.
Additional Information:
Salary: $25,000 - $30,000 annually. This is a part-time (50% FTE) position with the possibility of annual renewal based on performance and funding availability. Note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

History
Binghamton University opened its doors as Triple Cities College in 1946, to serve the needs of local veterans returning from service in World War II. Originally located in Endicott, N.Y., five miles west of the present campus, the fledgling school was a branch of Syracuse University.
Four years later, the college was incorporated into the State University of New York (SUNY) and renamed Harpur College in honor of Robert Harpur, a Colonial teacher, patriot and pioneer who helped settle the area west of Binghamton.
In 1961, the campus moved across the Susquehanna River to Vestal. Growing enrollment and a reputation for excellence soon led to the selection of Harpur College as one of four doctorate-granting University Centers in the SUNY system.
In 1965, the campus was formally designated the State University of New York at Binghamton, and in 1992, Binghamton University was adopted as our informal name.
