Job Details
The Logistics Specialist manages the flow of mail and packages through all stages of the logistics process, including receiving, sorting, processing, tracking, recordkeeping, and distribution. The position plays a critical role in supporting research activities by ensuring efficient and reliable delivery services throughout KU Lawrence research facilities. This position requires the operation of University-issued vehicles.
Work Hours: Monday through Friday: 8 am- 5pm with overtime and after hours call back as needed.

- Receives, inspects and sorts all mail and Inter-office mail for the Research departments on the Lawrence campus (includes daily mail pickup from the post office).
- Provides assistance to customers at the service window. Assists customers in completing necessary delivery forms. Resolves minor customer complaints or issues.
- Verifies all recipients and researches discrepancies to ensure accuracy of all deliveries.
- May assist with filing freight damage claims for items received in the Storeroom to seek reimbursement.
- Documents any damage identified with mail and/or packages upon receipt.
- Utilizes automated package tracking system to log and record all packages received, and to ensure accurate and efficient delivery of all mail/packages.
- Creates delivery route using package tracking system.
- Delivers all mail, packages and parcels utilizing established delivery routes, in accordance with established departmental and location standards.
- Obtains appropriate signatures on mail and packages, as required, to confirm delivery.
- Stamps, processes and records all Office of Research campus out-going mail/packages utilizing automated postage metering systems.
- Appropriately sorts and prepares out-going mail and/or packages.
- Collect outgoing mail utilizing established routes.
- Ensure activities are conducted in a professional and ethical manner, and in accordance with KU Lawrence, Office of Research, and Environmental Health and Safety Policies and applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality of packages. Handle sensitive data with discretion and in accordance with Office of Research policies and legal requirements.
- Maintain the highest standards of integrity, respect, professional conduct, and ethical standards.
- Maintains clean, orderly, hazard free, fire safe and secure workplace.
- Develop, maintain and expand job-specific knowledge and skills to keep pace with industry changes and support the university's commitment to excellence and innovation.
- May participate in relevant committees, task force, or other similar activities.
- Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of temperature and weather conditions.
- Bend, stoop, kneel, climb ladders or stairs, and traverse campus terrain.
- Lift and carry up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally, with or without accommodation.
- High school diploma or GED equivalency and four (4) years of office experience or four (4) years of post-secondary education.
- One (1) year of clerical, office support, mail services, shipping/receiving, customer service, or related experience.
- Valid driver’s license at time of hire and throughout employment.
- One (1) year of experience in a receiving dock or mailroom setting.
- Experience in a large institutional or academic environment.
- Strong verbal communication skills as demonstrated through interview and references.
