Job Summary
The Coordinator of Student Activities is a dynamic, collaborative professional who plays a key role in creating a vibrant living and learning environment that promotes student success, personal development, engagement, and self-responsibility. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President & Dean of Students for Student Affairs, the Coordinator is a key member of the Division of Enrollment, Marketing, and Student Affairs and is responsible for coordinating student activities and engagement initiatives that provide social, cultural, and educational opportunities for students to connect with the College and broader community.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs in initiating, planning, developing, and facilitating events and activities that enhance student life and the overall college experience.
- Leads the Colleges Orientation program, including the development, continuous improvement, coordination, and execution of in-person and virtual Orientation experiences.
- Provides direct support to student clubs, organizations, and student activities.
- Maintains a flexible work schedule to support student activities, meetings, and events, including evening and weekend responsibilities as needed.
- Provides leadership, guidance, and support to advisors of student organizations.
- Communicates effectively with students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders regarding programs, services, events, and other matters related to the position.
- Serves on Student Affairs and College committees as assigned or requested.
- Organizes, coordinates and leads campus student events such as Welcome Week, Town & Gown, Club Rush, Greek Recruitment Week, Leadership Reception, Family Day, and Homecoming.
- Serves in an advisory role to the Campus Activities Board, Greek Council, Stallion Society Orientation Team, and Student Government Association.
- Serves as the Coursedog liaison and approver for student-related facility and event requests and as the primary liaison for student engagement software.
- Ensures compliance with College policies and procedures through sound fiscal stewardship, responsible program administration, and continuous process improvement.
- Maintains accurate records and uses participation data, assessment results, and student feedback to support data-informed decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Supports the student food pantry and other outreach grants and initiatives, including programs associated with the Governors Office of Highway Safety (GOHS).
- Implements and oversees processes for the posting and distribution of materials on campus, as requested.
- Develops and provides annual training for student clubs, organizations, and their advisors.
- Coordinates, prepares, and disseminates the biweekly student newsletter.
- Oversees RecRe and supports a welcoming, engaging student life environment within the Student Center.
- Works closely with the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs and Residence Life staff on matters involving student conduct and organizational accountability.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President & Dean of Students for Student Affairs.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIRED BY POSITION
- Knowledge of budget development, fiscal stewardship, and budget management principles.
- Skill in coordinating programs, projects, and the work of student leaders and volunteers.
- Proficiency in job-related technology and software applications.
- Strong decision-making, problem-solving, judgment, and confidentiality skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Assistant Vice President & Dean of Students for Student Affairs assigns work in accordance with divisional goals and objectives. The supervisor reviews performance through regular communication, reports, outcomes, and observation of programs and activities.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include the Academic Catalog, Student Handbook, Registered Student Organization (RSO) Guidelines, Code of Conduct, FERPA regulations, Title IX regulations, and University System of Georgia policies and procedures. The position also contributes to the development and maintenance of advisor guidelines, memorandums of understanding for clubs and organizations, and relevant sections of the ABAC Student Handbook.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The purpose of this position is to provide meaningful engagement opportunities, programs, and services that strengthen the student experience.
- The position contributes to the personal, social, and academic success of ABAC students by fostering connection, belonging, leadership, and engagement.
- The position manages budgets associated with assigned events, programs, and student engagement initiatives.

- Contacts typically include students, faculty, staff, administrators, vendors, community partners, and members of the public.
- Contacts are typically for the purpose of providing services; sharing or obtaining information; coordinating programs and events; resolving problems; building partnerships; and explaining, negotiating, or addressing matters related to student activities and engagement.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility for professional staff but provides leadership, guidance, and advising to student leaders, groups, and organizations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree from an accredited institution.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- One to three years of related professional experience in a college or university setting.
- Experience with Banner or another student information system is desirable.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently and complete assignments independently.
- Knowledge of University System of Georgia policies and procedures is preferred.
