HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Business Manager II for the Department of Marketing serves as the primary operational and financial administrator for the department. Reporting closely to the Department Chair, this role oversees academic operations, manages departmental budgets, leads human resources processes, and provides comprehensive administrative support to faculty and staff in compliance with Robinson College of Business (RCB), Georgia State University (GSU), and University System of Georgia (USG) standards.
Key Core Responsibilities:
Financial & Budget Management: Establishes fiscal year budgets, generates financial reports, and analyzes State and GSU Foundation accounts. Handles requisition reviews, faculty research accounts, vendor contracts, extra compensation processing, and expense reimbursements.
Human Resources & Onboarding: Serves as the primary HR contact for faculty, staff, part-time instructors, and student/graduate research assistants. Directs hiring, onboarding, and contract preparations.
Academic & Event Coordination: Collaborates with the Chair and college coordinators on course scheduling, enrollment policy adherence, and faculty technical support. Plans and executes key departmental events, conferences, and itineraries.
Faculty & Administrative Support: Assists the Chair with faculty evaluations (Promotion & Tenure, FAAR, and PERs). Oversees travel arrangements, travel authorization, and expense reporting in line with university and Department of State guidelines.
Immigration & Legal Liaison: Manages international documentation, H1B visa paperwork, and visiting scholar contracts in coordination with university legal teams.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Academic and administrative:
Coordinate and supervise academic scheduling activities with the department chair and college coordinators.
Communicate course scheduling and provide support to faculty regarding course verification, registration, and technical issues. Assist the Dept. Chair with scheduling of key events.
Adhere to RCB policies and standards for RCB student requirements and eligibility to enroll in RCB courses.
Budget and financial affairs:
Establish FY budgets and financial reports, and prepare proposals for departmental funds.
Ensure that all yearly activities are supported with proper documentation, accuracy, and department chair approval. Work with college and university departments and the GSU Foundation to ensure compliance with GSU and USG policies.
Advise on management of available funds and resources (departmental expenditures, reimbursements, and disbursements).
Analyze areas of opportunity in spending and allocation of State & GSU Foundation accounts.
Practice responsible stewardship of resources in a timely manner.
Review requisition orders to verify accuracy.
Manage and monitor faculty research accounts.
Prepare contracts and SPCW forms for vendors and visiting scholars. Coordinate with the Legal Department.
Administrative support for the department chair by processing orders/payment requests, extra compensation, and fee-based forms for faculty members.
Hiring & training:
Primary contact for all human resources processes for faculty, part-time instructors, research assistants, staff, and student assistant hiring and onboarding.
Hire and assist Graduate Research Assistants.
Communicate university policies, Department of State, and GSA travel guidelines.
Organize, plan, & execute departmental events for students and faculty; assist in planning itineraries for conferences.
Assist faculty and doctoral students with travel arrangements, travel authorization forms, and travel expense statements (with full support from Admin. Specialist).
Faculty Support: Support faculty hiring and budget management.
Assist the department chair with various evaluation processes (Promotion & Tenure, Faculty Activities/Accomplishments (FAAR), and Personnel Effort Reporting (PERs) each semester.
Prepare international documents for visiting scholars and faculty each semester. Assist in preparing and processing H1B and Visa paperwork for international faculty.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree and four years of administrative experience, or a combination of education and related experience.

Founded in 1913 in Atlanta, Georgia State University is the second-largest and one of four research institutions in the University System of Georgia. There is also an active student government association which includes the student senate and the judicial board.
The Georgia State Panthers are members of the Colonial Athletic Association and compete in 16 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men’s and women’s sports, including basketball, baseball, softball, golf, tennis, track and volleyball. The university announced in April 2008 that is will begin Division I-AA football in 2010.
The university’s innovative Touch the Earth program brings outdoor recreation ranging from backpacking, rock climbing, sailing, kayaking, rafting and water-skiing to out-of-state snow-skiing and snorkeling trips. And WRAS, Georgia State’s popular 100,000-watt radio voice, is the most powerful student-run radio station in the United States.
