The success of SCC is rooted in the mission of serving the community by "focusing on academic excellence, student success, workforce advancement, and life-long learning within a global society."Position SummaryThe Fitness Center Assistant is responsible for providing outstanding customer service and assisting with the day-to-day operations of the college fitness center. This position helps maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all users by monitoring facility activities, enforcing policies, ensuring equipment cleanliness, and supporting fitness programming and events.Fitness Center Assistants serve as ambassadors for campus wellness by promoting healthy lifestyles, fostering positive interactions, and contributing to an engaging recreational experience for students, faculty, staff, and community members.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesFacility OperationsOpen and close the fitness center according to established procedures. Monitor activity within the fitness center to ensure participant safety. Conduct routine facility inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns. Maintain cleanliness of workout areas, fitness equipment, and common spaces. Restock cleaning supplies, sanitizing stations, and facility materials as needed. Customer ServiceAssist with wellness events, fitness challenges, workshops, and special programs. Support participant registration and event logistics. Promote recreational and wellness programs through positive engagement with students. Assist professional staff with outreach efforts to increase fitness center participation. Administrative ResponsibilitiesComplete assigned shift reports and operational checklists. Maintain accurate records and documentation as required. Attend staff meetings and training sessions. Perform other duties as assigned in support of campus recreation operations. Required QualificationsStrong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to provide excellent customer service. Dependable, responsible, and able to work independently. Ability to follow policies and procedures. Basic knowledge of fitness and wellness concepts. CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Preferred QualificationsPrevious customer service, recreation, fitness, or leadership experience. Experience working in a fitness center, recreational facility, or related environment. Physical RequirementsAbility to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 30 pounds. Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations. Ability to perform light cleaning and facility maintenance tasks.
- Greet and assist fitness center users in a friendly and professional manner.
- Check patrons into the facility and verify eligibility for access.
- Answer questions regarding facility policies, equipment usage, hours of operation, and programs.
- Provide information about campus recreation and wellness opportunities.
- Respond appropriately to customer concerns and escalate issues when necessary.
- Enforce fitness center policies, procedures, and behavioral expectations.
- Monitor participant conduct to promote a safe and respectful environment.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations according to departmental protocols.
- Complete incident and accident reports as required.
- Maintain awareness of emergency action plans and evacuation procedures.
