Job SummaryThe Academic Transfer Specialist is a key contributor to the retention and timely program completion of students who transfer into Middle Georgia State University, a five campus institution located in the heart of Georgia. The position serves as a resource specialist to both students and faculty in the development, coordination, and implementation of academic advising services and support. Position involves travel to the five campuses (Dublin, Eastman, Cochran, Warner Robins and Macon).
ResponsibilitiesTransfer Student Support and Advising (70%) -
Assists and accurately guiding transfer students in defining and developing realistic educational career plans through academic schedule planning (mapping the curriculum).
Provides recommendations regarding possible petitions.
Informs and, if necessary, refers students to other institutional resources when academic, attitudinal, or other personal problems require intervention. (Student Success Center, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Counseling).
Meets with transfer students to establish degree plans.
Participates in orientation programs for new transfer students.
Plans and executes retention campaigns.
Collaboration with Campus Partners (20%) -
Establishes and maintains working relationships with college departments, programs, divisions, and administration.
Collaborates with Career Services to assist students with maximizing career choices.
Collaborates with other offices to ensure accuracy of information on the academic advising website and other mediums of communication such as but limited to Webinars, Podcast, Facebook and Twitter.
Information Management and Training (5%) -
Develops systems, processes, and procedures to support college-wide collaboration addressing academic advising of transfer students.
Uses institutional data to report on student success and retention.
Prepares reports to demonstrate attainment of the Complete College Georgia strategic goals (i.e., retention, academic progress, graduation, transfer, etc.).
Facilitates academic advising workshops for faculty and academic advisors.
Other Duties (5%) -
Makes recommendations for process changes and improvements.
Maintains a library of transfer resources for students and faculty.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree required.
Other Required Qualifications
Must be available to work some late afternoons, evenings and weekends.
Required Experience
Minimum of three years of academic advising, and or related experience.
Experience working with student populations.
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master¿s degree preferred.
