Job Description:
This is a multi-level search with two open positions to be filled. Depending on qualifications, the successful candidates may be hired at either the Endpoint Technology Technician Associate or Lead level.
Job Summary:
Lead and support endpoint technology from computers to audiovisual systems across the college. Install, update, and maintain technology in classrooms, offices, and event areas. Provide expert troubleshooting for computer and audiovisual systems.
Associate Endpoint Technology Technician
Job Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, and update classroom, conference room, event space and office technology, including pulling cables, installing computers, printers, projectors, lecterns, cameras, speakers, microphones, wall mounted monitors, and other hardware.
- Ensure inventory is accurate by appropriately onboarding and disposing of assets following current processes and procedures.
- Create, update and troubleshoot tickets related to endpoint technology. Meet current SLAs, provide documentation both on tickets and in knowledge articles. Follow all current processes and procedures related to service management.
- Coordinate support for new and remodeled spaces during construction. Provide direct support for equipment moves and installations as needed.
- Implement classroom computer-based control systems and programming (e.g., Extron, Dante, or other current technology) and the networked projectors system.
- Direct the delivery, set up and return of media and computer-based equipment used in classes, meetings, and special events. Provide support for live events.
- Make recommendations on equipment and material purchases. Participate in team meetings to review and update technology standards, including current processes and procedures related to endpoint technology.
- Maintain an in depth and up to date knowledge of endpoint technology.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned, including providing support at other locations and campuses for major events.
Lead Endpoint Technology Technician
Job Responsibilities
- Design new installation initiatives, and coordinate the installation of new endpoint technology including classroom, audiovisual, video conferencing and other endpoint systems.
- Review and maintain asset inventory for endpoint technology; update and review inventory processes and procedures in collaboration with other areas of IT and the college.
- Review tickets for endpoint technology. Provide and review documentation for supporting endpoint technology. Follow all processes and procedures related to service management. Coordinate support with the Help Desk Supervisor and other areas of IT to resolve incidents.
- Review construction plans and timelines, plan equipment moves and installations. Provide and coordinate support for new and remodeled spaces during construction, including ensuring plans align with current technology standards,
- Serve as the application expert for classroom-based control systems and programming (e.g, Extron, Dante, or other current technology). Serve as the application expert for the projector management software system.
- Serve as primary production engineer during live events, managing the a/v control rooms or mobile control centers for events; work with IT personnel to help support the delivery, set up and return of media and computer-based equipment used in classes, meetings, and special events.
- Make recommendations on equipment and material purchases. Participate in team meetings to review and update technology standards, including current processes and procedures related to endpoint technology. Lead testing and assessment of new technology.
- Maintain an in depth and up to date knowledge of endpoint technology.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Associate Endpoint Technology Technician
Education, Work Experience, and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Computer Science or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
- Five years of directly relevant experience including:
- Five years audio video and/or computer hardware and system support.
- Two years technical repair experience and knowledge of current audiovisual equipment, including mixing boards, microphones, wireless systems, printers, and computers.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Valid and current driver's license and the ability to travel between all campuses, including transporting equipment in College owned vehicles.
- A high level of interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to deliver services in an environment where there is an emphasis on customer service are required.
- Two years' experience with IP protocols in routed networks, preferred.
- Experience programming Extron and/or Shure control systems for classrooms, boardrooms, and auditoriums, preferred.
- Two years' experience supporting Video Conferencing, Lecture Capture, preferred.
Lead Endpoint Technology Technician
Education, Work Experience, and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Computer Science or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
- Seven years of directly relevant experience including:
- Five years designing audiovisual systems
- Two years of third-level expert computer hardware support.
- One-year primary production engineer during live events, including demonstrated ability to correctly and safely mount, test and calibrate equipment including projectors, screens, monitors, cameras and speakers.
- Two years' experience in reading and interpreting wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Valid and current driver's license and the ability to travel between all campuses, including transporting equipment in College owned vehicles.
- A high level of interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to deliver services in an environment where there is an emphasis on customer service are required.
- Current certification or training in Oakton supported classroom systems (e.g., Extron or Shure).
- A minimum of two years' experience with IP protocols in routed networks, preferred.
Both Positions
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
- Work requires some lifting of items weighing up to 70 pounds, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and use of ladders. Mobility to travel to all campuses. Work is performed in a general office environment with little or no exposure to adverse working conditions.
Supervision Received:
Functional supervision is received from the Manager of User Support Services, Endpoint Technology and the Event Technology Support Supervisor (for events). Administrative supervision is received from the Director of User Support Services.
Supervision Exercised:
Functional supervision may be exercised over student employees as needed. The Lead Endpoint Technology Technician provides project-based supervision over the Associate Endpoint Technology Technician.
Additional Information:
HOURS: Monday - Friday, 8:15am - 5:00pm (Hours may vary due to the needs of the College and are inclusive of a 45 minute unpaid meal break).
SALARY: Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
Associate Endpoint Technology Technician: The minimum starting salary is $28.25 per hour which equates to $56,921 annualized based on Oakton's summer hours schedule.
Lead Endpoint Technology Technician: The minimum starting salary is $30.39 per hour which equates to $61,242 annualized based on Oakton's summer hours schedule.
Based on the needs of the college and with Administrator approval, some positions at the college may have a hybrid schedule option available after 30 working days. THIS POSITION IS NOT FULLY REMOTE
