UNCG continues to be recognized nationally for academic excellence, access, and affordability. UNCG is ranked No. 1 most affordable institution in North Carolina for net cost by the N.Y. Times and No. 1 in North Carolina for social mobility by The Wall Street Journal — helping first-generation and lower-income students find paths to prosperity. The University’s 2,600 staff help create an annual economic impact for the Piedmont Triad region in excess of $1B.

Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

Housing and Residence Life provides safe, welcoming, and engaging residential communities where an experienced, innovative and responsive team of professionals encourages students to pursue academic excellence, personal growth, civic leadership and responsibility.

Efficient, effective and accessible programs and services are provided by competently trained and reliable departmental teams in affordable, clean, comfortable, and sustainable facilities.

Position Summary:

This position serves as the Business Application Administrator responsible for administering, configuring, securing, integrating, and managing the lifecycle of mission-critical enterprise applications within the Student Services domain. This portfolio includes responsibility for StarRez, the campus housing system, as well as multiple applications used to deliver student services across the university. These include systems that support student engagement, conduct, care, housing, and related student service functions. The role partners closely with Housing and Residence Life, Student Affairs units, the Dean of Students, Campus Activities and Programs, ITS, vendors, and campus stakeholders to translate application and program process needs into scalable, secure, and well-governed functionality.

System administrators exercise independent technical authority while following institutional and regulatory standards. This position is accountable for lifecycle management, technical enablement, system availability, security, access management, configuration, data integrity, integrations, and compliance for applications with division-wide and institution-wide impact. Failures or security issues associated with the systems administered by this role may escalate to executive IT leadership (CIO/CISO), making this position accountable for audit findings, continuity of operations, and risk mitigation.

This position owns privileged access and security design for enterprise applications assigned to it, including user roles, administrative permissions, and access reviews in alignment with institutional audit and compliance requirements. This position is accountable for protecting sensitive data through appropriate access controls, configuration management, and vendor security coordination. This position ensures that system configurations, upgrades, and integrations adhere to university standards and do not introduce audit risk, data exposure, or compliance failures (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA, SOX, PCI, or other applicable regulations).

This position maintains operational continuity and availability of enterprise systems by proactively managing system performance, capacity, and user-impacting behaviors. This role plans upgrades and designs integrations, evaluating vendor releases, patches, and roadmap changes to ensure availability and stability for all users, and serves as the primary escalation point for production incidents and system failures, coordinating response activities with vendors, infrastructure teams, and integration partners. This position ensures coverage is in place to mitigate institutional risk during staff absences or turnover by providing cross-training and system and process documentation. This role also supports continuous improvement efforts across the systems it administers.

Employees assigned to support Housing and Residence Life are embedded with the department and are at times directly engaged in student-facing services. This involvement requires direct participation with Housing and Residence Life staff to understand operational needs and provide timely support for critical housing functions. The employee plays an active role in ensuring that major university events, such as student move-in, are successful by helping coordinate application readiness, troubleshooting issues, supporting communication and reporting needs, and partnering with departmental staff before, during, and after high-impact events. Through this embedded partnership, the employee helps strengthen service delivery, improve the student experience, and support the effective operation of Housing and Residence Life.

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry‐level with Masters or Bachelors and 0‐2 yrs experience or equivalent education/experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two to four years of experience administering systems supporting student engagement, conduct, care, housing, and related student service functions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
