Job Details

Rose-Hulman is searching for inspiring educators who share our passion for teaching undergraduate engineering students. Our mission is “to provide students with the world’s best undergraduate science, engineering, and mathematics education in an environment of individual attention and support.” If this resonates with you, then we think you’ll love what we have to offer.

We welcome applications for multiple tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor rank, to begin in the Fall of 2027. Primary teaching responsibilities will involve undergraduate engineering education in areas aligned with the candidate's expertise and departmental needs, including contributions to Mechanical Engineering and multidisciplinary Engineering Design experiences. Candidates with advanced experience may be considered for appointment at a higher academic rank.

Essential job responsibilities include teaching and advising students, continued professional development, and service to the department, Institute, and professional community. Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate engineering education, including laboratory instruction and lifelong personal and professional development. Research and scholarship remain part of the role — professional development at Rose-Hulman is defined broadly as continued intellectual growth throughout one's career, which may include scholarship of discovery, integration, application, teaching, or learning, often carried out in partnership with undergraduate students — but it supports the teaching mission rather than competing with it.

Requirements include a doctoral degree (by the start of employment) in engineering, engineering education or closely related field. While we welcome candidates from any specialty within Mechanical Engineering or closely adjacent engineering disciplines to apply, experience that supports our dynamics, mechanics, and design curriculum is strongly desired. We also welcome candidates with expertise in cutting-edge ME technologies. Candidates with experience that supports our Engineering Design program are also strongly desired.

The department and institute place a high value on supporting all our students; candidates who are excited to enhance student engagement and community are especially encouraged to apply.

Applicants must submit the following items to https://jobs.rose-hulman.edu/:

  • A cover letter that addresses:
    • Your interest in a faculty position at Rose-Hulman and your commitment to undergraduate engineering education.
    • The engineering, engineering science, engineering mechanics, and/or engineering design courses you would be most interested in teaching at Rose-Hulman. Identify at least four Rose-Hulman courses. Please visit our Academic Catalog at https://catalog.rose-hulman.edu/ for descriptions of courses in the Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Design curricula.
    • Any interest in teaching within Rose-Hulman's multidisciplinary Engineering Design program, including studio-based instruction, design education, project-based learning, community- or client-engaged experiences, and interdisciplinary collaboration through team teaching and partnerships with faculty across engineering, computer science, and the humanities.
  • A teaching statement that:
    • Describes your teaching philosophy and teaching accomplishments.
    • Demonstrates your commitment to teaching, mentoring, and supporting undergraduate students.
    • Discusses how your teaching philosophy and experiences inform your approach to undergraduate engineering education.
    • Provides specific examples illustrating how your approach promotes student learning, engagement, and success.
  • A professional development statement that:
    • Discusses your professional development objectives. Note that Rose-Hulman broadly defines professional development as “continued intellectual growth throughout one’s career.” Professional development may include scholarship in all its forms, including the scholarships of discovery, integration, application, teaching, and learning.
  • An updated Curriculum Vitae

Finalist candidates will also be asked to provide contact information for at least three professional references capable of commenting on the appropriateness of your candidacy at Rose-Hulman.
