Essential Job Duties:The agent in this position will provide leadership for the development and implementation of the Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) program in Onslow County. The agent will proactively conduct needs assessments, interactive learning opportunities, and program evaluations to provide future direction of the program. Programmatic support of current research-based nutrition/healthy lifestyles curriculum for all ages, along with volunteer management will be expected of the agent to meet program goals.

This position demands an individual with an understanding of family and consumer science programming needs, primarily in foods and nutrition, family health and life skills. The successful candidate must plan, develop, implement, and evaluate programs related to food preservation, healthy eating, food safety, life skills and others as identified by advisory members and other stakeholders across the county.
Candidate may recruit, train and incorporate volunteers into programming efforts. Collaboration with other government agencies, public and private non-profits and corporations is expected.This person must enjoy working with individuals as well as groups and have the ability to manage multiple tasks with little supervision.
The successful candidate is expected to be a team player working with Extension staff and other organizations and have the ability to work independently. Grant writing skills would be beneficial for program expansion.
This is an agent position that covers all of Onslow County. Travel is required and will be reimbursed following state guidelines. Office vehicles are provided for most travel.
Reporting on program impacts, including gathering data and preparing reports for stakeholders. Represent Cooperative Extension and FCS at outreach events and school enrichment programs. Attend trainings and engaging in professional development opportunities. Conduct collaborative programs with County Extension staff and other County departments.

Work Schedule:Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5pm with evenings and weekends as needed.
Minimum Experience/Education:One of the following educational requirements: – A Bachelor’s degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 overall or a 3.0 in family and consumer sciences (formerly known as home economics) or a related field (based on a 4.0 scale). The minimum GPA requirement will be waived for NCCE Program Associates with a Bachelor’s degree. – A Bachelor’s degree and the completion of at least one-half of coursework in a Master’s degree curriculum with a cumulative grade point average 3.0 or higher with at least one degree in family and consumer sciences (formerly known as home economics) or a related field, or – Completion of a Master’s degree with at least one degree in family and consumer sciences (formerly known as home economics) or a related field.
Department Required Skills:Computer literacy including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Excellent time and resource management skills. Personable, and able to build networking coalitions. Adaptable and self motivated.
