About us:
The Technoscience Research Unit (TRU) at the University of Toronto is an Indigenous-led home for critical and creative research on science, technology and environment. Led by M. Murphy and Kristen Bos, the TRUhas an internationally recognized focus on Indigenous Science and Technology Studies, Environmental Justice, Indigenous Environmental Data Justice, and community-based research. The TRU is home to multiple labs and projects, including the Environmental Data Justice Lab, with a focus on Indigenous community-based research in Canada’s Chemical Valley and the Indigenous Science and Ethical Substance Lab, which undertakes research in the areas of policy, methods, and practices concerning pollutants andenvironmental justice, and data justice. The TRU is dedicated to co-building decolonial, justice-oriented, and feminist research community and supports a diverse community of researchers, students and community researchers. The TRU is affiliated with theSchool of Environment and has a partnership with the Acceleration Consortium, and is home to the NFRF funded project All Our Chemical Relations.
Your opportunity:
Under the general direction of the Department Manager and TRU Directors, you will provide comprehensive administrative support to an Indigenous-led research unit guided by values-based research practices in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities include serving as the first point of contact by responding to inquiries from a diverse range of stakeholders; coordinating financial processes such as expense reimbursements, debit memos, purchase requisitions and orders, invoice payments, bank deposits, timesheet administration, monitoring account and monthly statement reconciliations and ensuring compliance with the University's Guide to Financial Management. The role also supports meeting coordination, space management, onboarding activities, and records management in accordance with Indigenous data governance principles.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supports front line activities and acts as first point of contact for inquiries
- Proofreading and fact-checking content; Handling sensitive and/or confidential information
- Determining actionable items based on the review of applicable information
- Supports reimbursements, purchasing, financial analysis and/or reporting activities
- Determining logistical details and activities for events; arranging catering and accommodations
- Maintaining TRU Directors calendars, and scheduling appointments/activities, and resolving scheduling conflicts
Essential Qualifications:
- Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience in a combination of administrative, event planning, and financial administration.
- Demonstrated experience working in an Indigenous and/or marginalized community-based research environments.
- Experience with OCAP and Indigenous data governance.
- Experience generating financial reports, monitoring and reconciling research grant accounts, and knowledge of the University Guide to Financial Management.
- Experience managing complex schedule/calendar for multiple stakeholders, with strong organization skills.
- Experience taking meeting minutes and disseminating information.
- Experience arranging domestic and international business trips, including making travel and hotel arrangements and preparing expense reimbursements.
- Experience with event planning and logistics support.
- Experience with maintaining information on digital platforms and websites.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and service delivery, with experience supporting diverse needs in interactions with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise a high degree of initiative, political acuity, sound judgment and sensitivity dealing with a variety of responsibilities in a high-volume environment with multiple deadlines and competing priorities.
- Strong ability to work under pressure and handle a variety of tasks such as coordinating multiple processes and dealing with a large number of accounts with accuracy and attention to detail
- Accomplished ability to multitask and demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines without compromising quality.
