Job Details

The Mourrain Lab, within the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University’s School of Medicine, is seeking a full time Life Science Research Professional 1 (LSRP 1) to study sleep and its effects on neurobiology. The Mourrain Lab specializes in neuroscience, genetics, epigenetics, developmental biology, and engineering to achieve the following objectives:

Investigate the reasons behind sleep and how it enhances cognitive performance by altering synaptic connections.Identify and address synaptic deficits observed in neurodevelopmental conditions like Fragile X syndrome, Autism, neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and age-related synaptic changes.Study genes and processes essential for neuronal regeneration to repair damaged brain tissue, including the retina.Enhance knowledge of gene regulation mechanisms and explore the impact of non-coding Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) on causing human diseases.

The LSRP 1 will test the impact of sleep disruptions and sleep interventions on autophagosomal activity and cellular redox homeostasis mechanisms. The LSRP will perform CRISPR/Cas9 editing of genes involved in lysosomal and phagosome activity. They will perform molecular analysis of the generated mutations and biochemical phenotyping.
