General Statement of Job
The Coordinator supports, implements, and evaluates activities of the Center for Mexican American Studies and Ballet Folklorico South Texas College; attends and represents the College at local, state, national, international conferences and cultural festival and activities, as needed; supervises and coordinates student travel opportunities promoting student engagement; participates in the development of marketing strategies to promote campus activities and services to maximize student involvement.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Supports, implements, and evaluates student activities and events district-wide and out of district.
- Attends and represents the College at local, state, national, international conferences and cultural festival and activities, as needed.
- Monitors student's proper and safe use of CMAS' facilities, equipment, costumes, props, and furnishings as per departmental procedures.
- Oversees maintenance of costumes and props that are utilized by Ballet Folklorico South Texas College before and after performances.
- Coordinates and assists with various educational, recreational, social and cultural on-campus events that are jointly sponsored with other divisions and departments including Lecture series and festivals.
- Supervises and coordinates student travel opportunities promoting student engagement.
- Cultivates cooperative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders of the College consistent with STC's mission, philosophy, and goals.
- Coordinates with vendors, city code enforcement, and other external agencies in ensuring proper documentation, permits, quotes, etc. are properly obtained for events, as needed.
- Works with Continuing Education to offer courses in cultural dance at various experience levels.
- Collaborates with the Public Relations and Marketing department in marketing, graphic design, and social media to ensure proper promotion of events, as needed.
- Participates in the development of marketing strategies to promote campus activities and services to maximize student involvement.
- Maintains familiarity with the College's programs, policies, procedures and academic standards.
- Responsible for maintaining accountability and sound fiscal management.
- Travels throughout the college district, as needed.
- Supervises assigned staff.
- Serves as Campus Security Authority.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.
- At least two (2) years of work experience in higher education preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Effective leadership and supervisory skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and presentation abilities.
- Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Internet documentation search and mail.
- Ability to function well under time constraints and strict deadlines.
- Demonstrated commitment to the community college philosophy of education.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Requirements
