The San Diego State University Department of Linguistics and Asian/Middle Eastern Languages seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant professor with expertise in computational linguistics.

We particularly welcome candidates whose research engages with one or more of the following areas: multilingual language technology; computational approaches to speech, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics; language variation, processing, or learning; and language technology for under-resourced languages. The Linguistics program offers an undergraduate major and minor in Linguistics and a Master's degree in Linguistics with specializations in general and applied linguistics. The department supports a broad range of research and teaching in theoretical, experimental, computational, and applied linguistics, and also offers certificates in Computational Linguistics and Text Analytics, among other subjects, and contributes to the new undergraduate major in Artificial Intelligence and Human Responsibility. Qualifications Required qualifications by date of application

    A record of original research / scholarly / creative accomplishments and demonstrated capacity to a) develop a vigorous and independent program of research / scholarship / creative activity, b) teach graduate and undergraduate courses relevant to computational linguistics; and c) engage in both campus and professional service activities.

Required qualifications by date of hire

    A PhD in linguistics or a relevant field, with all degree requirements met.

Preferred qualifications

    Demonstrated expertise in the discipline and its methodologies Record of publications, presentations, and/or funding  Demonstrated proficiency in interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches  Potential for securing extramural funding University-level teaching and mentorship experience, including teaching students from diverse backgrounds Ability to direct advanced undergraduate and / or graduate student research

The minimum salary for this position is based on the current CSU salary schedule and may be revised based on contract collective bargaining. The anticipated academic year salary range is from $83,000 to $87,000. Salary placement will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience, and salaries higher than the published maximums may be offered in limited circumstances.
