Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.:- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Communications, Public Administration, Education, Management, or related field.
- Minimum eight (8) years of experience in law enforcement, fire service, emergency management, training management, public safety administration, or external relations.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex projects and multi-agency coordination.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment within established guidelines.
- Ability to travel up to 25%, including potential international travel.
- Ability to work a regular 40-hour work week.
- ALERRT Certified or Adjunct Instructor
- In-depth knowledge of ALERRT program, curriculum, training model, and course offerings
- Supervisory or regional leadership experience
- Experience managing budgets and monitoring grant-funded programs
- Contract negotiation experience
- International program coordination experience
- Prior grant writing experience
The External Programs Coordinator serves as a senior operational leader within the ALERRT Center, responsible for developing and sustaining strategic partnerships with law enforcement agencies, public safety organizations, governmental entities, and international stakeholders. This position manages contracted training services and coordinates external training deployments. The position is responsible for marketing and selling course offerings and for achieving enrollment levels that support the program’s established financial targets.
The External Programs Coordinator manages complex training agreements, monitors contract budgets, and coordinates cross-regional operations, while ensuring quality control across externally delivered programs. The position functions as a key liaison between ALERRT and external partners and serves as Acting Public Information Officer in the absence of the Director of External Relations.
- Build and maintain partnerships with law enforcement/public safety agencies across all jurisdiction levels; serve as primary contact for customized training requests
- Develop proposals, scopes of work, and negotiate contract terms for specialized training services
- Manage contract budgets, scheduling, instructor coordination, and logistics to ensure fiscal compliance and quality delivery
- Monitor partner satisfaction and prepare performance reports/documentation for leadership
- Collaborate on curriculum development, identifying emerging threat trends and recommending enhancements
- Support domestic and international rollout of approved course offerings
- Serve as Acting Public Information Officer in Director’s absence; coordinate messaging and respond to media inquiries as delegated
- Assist in planning international training engagements and liaise with host agencies under leadership direction
- Ensure compliance with university and grant guidelines for international deployments
- Represent ALERRT at conferences and outreach events; apply strong organizational skills to manage competing priorities and additional assigned duties
