Job Description:


Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)


Salary: $60,245 - $65,000


The Department of Student Transition and Success is seeking a creative, positive, and student- centered professional for the position of Coordinator for Student Success Coaching in the Department for Student Transition and Success. The Coordinator for Success Coaching will serve as an academic success and life coach and will be primarily responsible for supporting undergraduate student engagement and success inside and outside of the classroom via one-to-one academic coaching, meetings, academic skills/engagement programs and workshops, and assisting with the management of a peer-to-peer coaching program. Students who receive coaching typically reach their goals faster, enjoy college more, have high grade point averages, and have higher rates of retention. As part of the Student Transition and Success team, the Coordinator for Student Success Coaching will contribute to the successful retention and graduation of at-risk students through targeted program design based on data and working closely with other campus resources to support at-risk students in achieving their personal and academic goals.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Serves as a point of contact and provide success coaching on a walk-in or appointment basis and make referrals to appropriate school advising offices, academic departments, and other campus resources as necessary
  • Lead and assist in planning, promoting and coordinating interactive and dynamic support programs for designated student cohorts (e.g. first-year, success coaching, and others) using a data-based approach
  • Work collaboratively with the department of Student Transition and Success team to support student success programming
  • Assist with the coordination and facilitation of student staff training
  • Aid the recruitment process for graduate and undergraduate staff who specialize in peer success coaching
  • Supervise the Graduate Assistant for Success Coaching & Marketing
  • Coordinate GA projects throughout the semester and academic year including their marketing work
  • Serve as primary contact for developing and maintaining cross campus partnerships
  • Manage program requests and lead the development/facilitation of specific academic success workshops for faculty and staff as needed
  • Serve on other university and external committees that promote and enhance effectiveness and visibility on campus
  • Represent Binghamton University, the Division of Student Affairs and all functional areas at various on campus, local, regional, state and national events
  • Engage in professional development activities which may include travel
  • Occasional evening, night, or weekend work may be required if a situation warrants this need
  • Organize and coordinate staff bonding events for the student staff
  • Maintain the Success Coaching referral form and send outreach to those students
  • Lead office marketing efforts through relationship building across campus and some graphic design projects

Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree (or higher)
  • Minimum of one year of professional experience in coaching, advising or adjacent roles in higher education
  • Documented experience in programming, presenting, providing workshops and/or teaching experience
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with a variety of campus partners and departments

Preferred:


  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field
  • Knowledge of student development theory and best practices in success coaching and student transition programs
  • Experience with programmatic marketing, including relationship building and graphic design
  • Demonstrated experience using a data-based approach to develop, evaluate, and improve student support programs
  • Experience working with and serving a high quantity of diverse students

History

Binghamton University opened its doors as Triple Cities College in 1946, to serve the needs of local veterans returning from service in World War II. Originally located in Endicott, N.Y., five miles west of the present campus, the fledgling school was a branch of Syracuse University.

Four years later, the college was incorporated into the State University of New York (SUNY) and renamed Harpur College in honor of Robert Harpur, a Colonial teacher, patriot and pioneer who helped settle the area west of Binghamton.

In 1961, the campus moved across the Susquehanna River to Vestal. Growing enrollment and a reputation for excellence soon led to the selection of Harpur College as one of four doctorate-granting University Centers in the SUNY system.

In 1965, the campus was formally designated the State University of New York at Binghamton, and in 1992, Binghamton University was adopted as our informal name.
