Position Summary

The Master of Quantitative Economics (MQE) is an innovative graduate degree program aimed at empowering students with the quantitative and analytical skills necessary to solve the challenges of today's business world. This fast-growing graduate degree program is seeking an energetic and student-focused graduate advisor to join our innovative team. This position will serve as a main resource for students enrolled in the Master of Quantitative Economics (MQE). The Graduate Advisor will develop, implement, modify policies and procedures for the efficient operation of student services, work closely with MQE leadership, Chair, and CAO on programmatic planning. Major duties include but are not limited to scheduling and enrollment, program admissions, and management of special events. Incumbent will direct and complete the admissions process and monitor acceptance rates for the current cycle and tracking purposes. As the main point of contact for prospective and incoming students, the graduate advisor will field questions, increase retention rates, and manage students' progress to degree. The graduate advisor will direct special programs and events, serve as program representative for public relations, support job placement, and compile historic admissions data for long term strategic planning. As a member of the MQE team, this position also takes an active role in supporting student recruitment, enrollment, student and career services. Furthermore, this position will advance the goals and priorities of the MQE program by providing support to the Chair of the Department and MQE Faculty Director in tracking student progress, issuing reports, producing market research summaries, writing memos and documents, and helping produce and keep track of MQE files and outcomes.

Salary & Compensation

Qualifications

2 years experience job-related experience (Required)

1. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, faculty, administrators, students, and the public from various backgrounds (social, cultural, economic or educational), on an individual basis or in a group setting. (Required)

2. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing, to obtain and convey accurate and timely information to faculty, staff, students, and individuals at various organizational levels. (Required)

3. Demonstrated ability to compose, edit and proofread reports, memos and other correspondence according to standard English grammar, punctuation and prose. (Required)

4. Skill in handling confidential matters and maintaining confidential student files with tact, sensitivity, discretion, diplomacy, integrity, and professional maturity, including in the face of resistance, indifference or hostility. (Required)

5. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work both independently and as an effective member of a team; prioritize and complete multiple projects accurately and on time despite frequent interruptions, with minimal follow-up from supervisor. (Required)

6. Working knowledge of graduate degree program requirements and regulations, including College of Letters and Science and Graduate Division policies, and of University student services and resources (Counseling and Psychological Services, Career Center, Registrar's Office, etc.) to refer and assist students in need. (Preferred)

7. Skill in assessing and tracking individual student progress while assisting a large number of graduate students; ability to evaluate trends, create reports, and recommend changes where appropriate. (Required)

8. Demonstrated skill in using Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. (Required)

9. Familiarity with electronic contact record systems (Slate, Salesforce) and graphic design tools (Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator). (Required)

10. Knowledge of UCLA campus systems, including OASIS, MyUCLA/Electronic Gradebook, Bruinbuy, and Campus Travel Express for purchasing and reimbursements. (Preferred)

11. Ability to work occasional overtime, weekends and evenings. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

Bachelor's Degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training (Required)
