Tallahassee State College (TSC), recently recognized as one of the Most Promising Places to Work in Community Colleges (2025), one of the Nation’s Best and Brightest Companies to Work For® (2025), and a Great Colleges to Work For® (2025), is excited to announce a grant-funded opening for the position of Career Navigator – P09102 with the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) – Florida Youth College. What You’ll Do
The Career Navigator provides individualized case management and counseling to youth within the Department of Juvenile Justice residential facilities, focusing on career assessment, exploration, and post-release planning that prepares DJJ youth for careers post release. Guides youth in selecting educational and career-focused pathways aligned with their interests and strengths to support long-term success in the workforce. This position reports to the Deputy Director, (through the Florida Youth College grant, a partnership between Tallahassee State College and the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice).
Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for:
- Provides comprehensive support and detailed information about Florida Youth College to youth’s parents, the general public, and staff via in person, phone, text, and email. Maintains an ongoing awareness of available youth resources that can be shared with project partners and may be required to become a subject matter expert for a specific area(s) including, but not limited to, Registered Apprenticeship, WIOA, Military, Career Exploration or other areas identified by leadership. Conducts required 5, fifteen (15), thirty (30), sixty (60), ninety (90), and 180-day follow-ups with assigned caseload. Maintains a cumulative activity report.
- Reviews and processes referrals and other documents related to program youth. Assists with the registration process and responds to inquiries about the admittance into a postsecondary institution. Processes changes in Workday. Works closely with, Instructors and other program staff to ensure student success. Works with the student to determine program tracks. Reviews documents for accuracy.
- Works closely with students to develop tailored comprehensive success plan. Makes referrals, schedules and coordinates with program partners and provides community resources to ensure student success and pathways to work-based learning or postsecondary education. Educates students on options and provides guidance and advisement. Develops and maintains a relationship with assigned youth to ensure engagement and progress.
- Assists each youth with setting up their Employ Florida account.
- Effectively communicates ideas, thoughts, and directions, verbally and in writing.
- Develops a tailored success plan for each assigned youth. Works with the youth to identify the documentation required for enrollment into a postsecondary institution. Proactively assist in work toward securing work based learning opportunities once youth has transitioned from an institution.
- Works with a team to coordinate services to youth in a comprehensive manner; maintains and uses the required database to maintain data. Assists in the development of automated communications with students. Communicates and resolves process issues with enrollment, admissions coordination of resource referral, records. Serves as liaison to external stakeholders to include educational partners, WIOA partners, community partners, Registered Apprenticeship Sponsors, employer partners, and Contract #10771 Amendment #6 Page 37 of 69 Version: 71 07-2-2024 others. Advises students about academic requirements, reviewing and interpreting test scores, unofficial transcripts, and course prerequisites. Assists with online college credit options and dual enrollment registration and advising.
- Cultivates and maintains an active, ongoing relationship with CareerSource Florida partners will connect each youth participant to their local workforce development board for ongoing counseling and connection to WIOA services.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in a related area from an accredited college or university and three years of related experience. Master’s degree is preferred.
- This position can be physically located in one of the four DJJ regions across the state, but it is not a remote position.
- The incumbent must be able to do site visits to a DJJ residential/detention program.
