Description of Work:

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UNL is seeking applicants for a tenure-line position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor with a focus in computer engineering systems, computer architecture, or networking, including connections to systems engineering. The person hired into this position is expected to develop a nationally recognized research program and contribute to academic programs in computer engineering, with opportunities to support interdisciplinary systems engineering research and education.
Research and educational activities may include:

  1. Developing an externally funded research program in computer engineering systems, computer architecture, or networking.
  2. Developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in these areas to prepare students for careers in industry, research, and academia.
  3. Mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and advancing collaborative research, capstone projects, and industry partnerships.

The position will be based on the Scott Campus in Omaha, NE, and housed in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (https://ece.unl.edu), with opportunities to support teaching and research on UNL’s City Campus in Lincoln. This location will facilitate collaboration with faculty across Nebraska Engineering, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and relevant industry and government partners.

The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering consists of approximately 35 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 400 undergraduate students, and 120 graduate students co-located in two cities, Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska. An outstanding infrastructure exists for conducting research, including central facilities housing state-of-the-art instrumentation and computing, including the Holland Computing Center (https://hcc.unl.edu). Opportunities for collaborations across the University of Nebraska include the University of Nebraska Medical Center; the University of Nebraska-Omaha College of Information Science & Technology; the Nebraska Center for Energy Sciences Research; the Center for Brain, Biology, and Behavior; the Nebraska Athletic Performance Laboratory; the Midwest Roadside Safety Facility; Innovation Campus; and other state- and federally-funded research centers and programs.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely aligned area, including communication systems, control systems, nuclear systems, etc.
  • Credentials and a distinguished scholarly record that qualifies the applicant for a tenured/tenure-track faculty position in the electrical and computer engineering department.
  • Ability to think broadly and develop research and programmatic activities across many systems-related disciplines.
  • Understanding of how to build productive relationships with faculty, students, administrative leaders, and external partners across various disciplines and organizational units.
  • Ability to understand, and work effectively with diverse faculty viewpoints.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for promoting systems programs and developing strong partnerships with industry, other universities, government agencies such as STRATCOM, and other partners.
  • Demonstrated experience in systems sciences and engineering research.
  • Proven experience in leadership, strategic planning, and development.
  • Experience with mentoring undergraduate students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An outstanding publication record, a history of funded research, and a strong national/international reputation in the area of computer and system engineering and related topics.
  • Experience building higher education degree programs.
