Essential Job Duties:

As an Admissions Communications Specialist you will play a key role in connecting prospective students and their families with the information, resources and support they need throughout the admissions process. This position combines communications, student engagement, recruitment and admissions expertise to help create a clear and engaging experience for students as they explore NC State.

In this role, you will:

  • Serve as a knowledgeable point of contact for admissions questions and inquiries received through email, phone, social media and in-person interactions.
  • Lead the strategy and day-to-day use of ZeeMee, a third-party chat platform for prospective and admitted students, including recruiting student influencers and coordinating live virtual events throughout the fall and spring semesters.
  • Maintain and enhance recruitment resources, including admissions presentations and internal training materials.
  • Travel in state and out of state to represent NC State at recruitment events, connecting with prospective students, families and key stakeholders and sharing the opportunities available through the university.
  • Evaluate applicants’ academic credentials and apply established admissions criteria to make informed admissions decisions.
  • Lead engaging on-campus and virtual information sessions that help prospective students and their families understand the admissions process and take the next step toward enrollment.

Working closely with recruitment and communications colleagues, you will help align messaging, outreach, and engagement efforts while supporting broader enrollment goals. This is an opportunity to make a direct impact on how prospective students experience and understand NC State from their first interaction through the entire admissions process.

  • In addition to the core responsibilities of this role, there may be occasional opportunities to take on additional duties. This offers an opportunity to build on your skills, explore new areas, and gain a deeper understanding of the department’s operations.

Minimum Experience/Education:

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise with content management systems, including creating, editing, organizing and publishing digital content while maintaining accuracy, consistency and established content standards.
  • Experience working in a university or higher education environment, with an understanding of academic, administrative, admissions or student services processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately interpret and apply a broad range of academic and administrative policies and procedures, including evaluating information, identifying applicable requirements and communicating clear and consistent guidance to students and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in analyzing complex applicant information and applying established admissions criteria, using independent judgment and discretion to make accurate, consistent and well-supported admissions decisions.
  • Counseling skills, with the ability to explain policies, procedures and admissions decisions clearly; assess individual circumstances; and provide appropriate guidance while maintaining confidentiality and professional judgment.
