The Department of Psychology offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees with focal areas such as Neuroscience, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, School Psychology, and Clinical Psychology, Clinical Health Psychology, Occupational Health Psychology. Our faculty routinely collaborate with and have established strong connections across ECU with the School of Dental Medicine, College of Education, College of Business, and many departments within Brody School of Medicine. We are also experiencing unprecedented investment from the State of North Carolina in our psychology clinic through the Expanding Primary Care Workforce legislative initiative.
Job Duties:
The Department of Psychology at East Carolina University (ECU) invites applications for a fixed-term Teaching Instructor or Teaching Assistant Professor, beginning as early as January 2026. This 9-month, non-tenure track, position will be expected to provide high-quality undergraduate instruction in the BA Psychology degree program. One of our main areas of need is online asynchronous teaching at an accelerated pace in the department's online undergraduate Psychology program. The online Bachelor of Arts program, part of a UNC System online education partnership called Project Kitty Hawk (PKH) (Project Kitty Hawk – UNC System (northcarolina.edu) is designed to primarily serve adult learners and part-way-home students and is a critical component of the department, college, and university's strategic plan. The other main area of need is to teach courses in the traditional undergraduate program. Regarding undergraduate instructional requirements, needs exist in all areas of the curriculum, and candidates can expect to regularly teach both core (e.g., introductory psychology, statistics, research methods) and elective (e.g., cognitive, social) courses. There is a particular need for instruction in research methods or statistics. The expected course load is eight courses per academic year.
Minimum Education/Experience:
A Master's degree in Psychology or related discipline is required for appointment as Teaching Instructor. A PhD or equivalent in Psychology or related discipline is required for appointment as Teaching Assistant Professor. Qualifying degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
Expertise with online instruction and instruction for adult learners is preferred.
