Description of Basic Functions and Responsibilities

The TRIO ETS Middle School Program Coordinator provides comprehensive academic, college, and career readiness services to program participants. This position is responsible for student outreach, recruitment, academic advising, career exploration, tutoring, workshops, field trips and events, and ongoing case management for a cohort of middle school students at select south Shasta County middle schools. This position works closely with school sites, families, and community partners to advance program objectives. This job class requires knowl­edge of college access service delivery and the ability to effectively relate to a diverse student population.

This part-time, non-benefited position is in-person, on-site at select south Shasta County middle schools. This is an academic year position (mid-August through early June), 28 hours per week, 4 days per week.

Under the direction of an area administrator, plan, organize, coordinate, develop, implement, and oversee the day-to-day operations of a variety of student services programs and areas, serving as a liaison for students. Performs a variety of complex and highly responsible administrative and program support for assigned student services program or location. Initiates, develops and maintains strong relationships with students to ensure student access and success within specific program guidelines. Actively collaborates with the director, external educational staff, and internal program staff to identify and use innovative and engaging practices to maximize student success especially for students whose backgrounds have not prepared them for college readiness. Demonstrates leadership to encourage and model a holistic approach to programming and student support.

This job class is a classified administrator position and requires strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Promotes a positive atmosphere and facilitates cooperation and collaboration as a representative of the assigned program in interactions with the campus community and outside agencies and schools.

Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability

Essential Functions:

Provides guidance for assigned program or location, implementing specific activities and services to promote post-secondary enrollment, student success, and follow up and retention interventionsAssists students in understanding and navigating academic and college systems, including admissions, financial aid, academic counseling, course registration, and college support programsProvides day-to-day leadership and works with staff to ensure a high performance, customer service-oriented work environmentsMay oversee hiring, onboarding, supervision, and evaluation of classified staff and student workersMonitors student academic performance and engagement, providing guidance and referrals to tutoring and available resources as neededIdentifies and actively recruits qualified students, assisting students and parents with application paperwork, and making recommendations for final selection into assigned programOversees the creation and maintenance of student program-related records and contacts; follow proper paperwork and record keeping processes and adhere to all program deadlinesAssists in preparing announcements, newsletters, and other forms of communication regarding program-related events, activities, and initiatives.Coordinates events and services related to high school completion and transition to post-secondary educationPlans, coordinates, and participates in field trips and campus toursIn collaboration with appropriate manager/supervisor, gathers, reviews, and maintains student success data, makes recommendations for implementing initiatives to promote student success, and identifies tools including technology to track support services and outcomesPromotes post-secondary access by involvement in various community and public school forums, boards, and committeesResearch and consult with college and community support services and organizations to identify available resources and address student needsUnderstands and implements all processes necessary for achieving grant and funding objectives where applicableWorks collaboratively with college and community educators on referrals and student recordsCoordinates and leads individual meetings and/or small group workshops for students, and community members on topics related to access to post-secondary educationKnowledge of:

Education/Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in education, social science, or a related fieldDemonstrated experience in building positive relationships, motivating and supporting low income and potential first generation studentsExperience developing and maintaining effective working relationships with school and community personnelDemonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students, as well as staff members and students with physical and/or learning disabilities.Experience Preferred:

Significant experience in coordinating and implementing programs designed to assist students in post-secondary educationExperience managing a caseload of students, working with individuals as well as groupsAdditional Information
