The San Diego State University School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences (ENS) seeks to hire at a tenure-track Assistant Professor with expertise in Kinesiology/Athletic Training. We seek an outstanding scholar with expertise in human subjects research related to athletic training, biomechanics, motor control, rehabilitation sciences, health care, or closely related areas. About the School

The School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences is one of six schools within the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS). CHHS is one of eight academic colleges at San Diego State University.

The School offers undergraduate degrees in:

Kinesiology (with emphasis areas in Pre-Physical Therapy, Fitness Specialist, and Exercise Science)
Foods and Nutrition 

Graduate degrees include:

M.S. in Athletic Training 
M.S. in Exercise Physiology 
M.S. in Food Science 
M.S. in Kinesiology (concentrations: Biomechanics and Motor Control; Physical Activity)
M.S. in Nutritional Sciences 
Concurrent M.S. degrees in Exercise Physiology and Nutritional Sciences 

 

Faculty conduct nationally recognized research in areas including athletic training, biomechanics, motor control, physical activity, exercise physiology, food science, nutritional sciences, healthy aging, obesity, metabolism, and community health. The School maintains active collaborations across the university, with local healthcare systems, and with community organizations.

The School received the Inclusive Excellence Award in 2019 from the American Kinesiology Association in recognition of its leadership in promoting inclusive excellence through curriculum innovation, faculty development, and student success.  

Required Qualifications by date of application:

A record of original research / scholarly / creative accomplishments and demonstrated capacity to: 

a) develop a vigorous and independent program of research / scholarship / creative activity 

b) teach graduate and undergraduate courses

c) engage in both campus and professional service activities

Demonstration of past accomplishments and/or future plans in at least two (2) or more of the “Building on Inclusive Excellence” criteria. 

Required qualifications by date of hire:

Terminal degree (PhD or equivalent) in Kinesiology, Athletic Training, Rehabilitation Sciences, Biomechanics, Motor Control, Exercise Science, with all degree requirements met. 
Athletic Training Certification (Board of Certification)

Preferred Qualifications

Postdoctoral research experience. 
Demonstrated expertise in the discipline and its methodologies
Record of publications, presentations, and/or funding 
Demonstrated proficiency in interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches 
Potential for securing extramural funding
University-level teaching experience, including teaching and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds
Ability to direct/mentor advanced undergraduate and / or graduate student research

Salary
The minimum salary for this position is based on the current CSU salary schedule and may be revised based on contract collective bargaining. The anticipated salary range is from $97,000 to $101,000. Salary placement will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience, and salaries higher than the published maximums may be offered in limited circumstances.
