Job Description:


Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)


Salary: $62,000 - $66,000


Residential Life serves the needs of 7,800+ residents through a system of six residential colleges. We strive to support the academic mission of the University by providing residents with a living-learning experience through our collegiate structure. Duties and responsibilities:


  • Assist with the operational oversight of several state buildings under the oversight of Residential Life: Appalachian Collegiate Center (APP), Nelson A. Rockefeller Collegiate Center (NAR), Hinman Dining Center (HDC), Chenango-Champlain Collegiate Center (C4), Iroquois Commons, Tuscarora Office Building, and Hillside Commons.
  • Manage 40-50 student Resource Managers, responsible for monitoring and facilitating operations in state buildings. This includes shift scheduling, facilitating meetings and/or training sessions, maintaining online shift schedules and timesheets, and participating in new staff hiring processes.
  • Supervise 4-6 Operations Crew, student staff who assist with departmental equipment including green laundry carts, vacuums, air conditioners, furniture and appliances. Coordinate repair, replacement, and manage tracking.
  • Identify when resources are needed in the student success centers, multi-purpose rooms, and computer labs; working to procure those items.
  • Complete inventory and furniture condition reports to inform recommendations for repair and/or replacement of furniture, furnishings and equipment.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of reservable spaces in Residential Life areas. This includes meeting with individuals/groups requesting to use these locations in order to: review proposed setups, collect information for setup diagrams, process billing information, and/or develop additional plans for accommodation as needed.
  • Serve in lead coordination role for Residence Hall Closing in May, See-U-Later Crew student staff scheduling/training and closing procedures for Residential Life Department.
  • Conduct monthly tours/inspections of all residence facilities with the appropriate Residential Life and Facilities Management personnel. Following up on work orders as necessary.
  • Participate as an active member of the Residential Operations team including contributing to the overall departmental efforts through committee participation, attendance at weekly meetings, training professional and paraprofessional staff, and undertaking special assignments in support of the program.
  • Assist in all stages of project planning and implementation for Residential Life operations.
  • Provide on-site supervision of deliveries and installations to halls and state buildings.
  • Assist with the application, assignment, troubleshooting, and turnover of summer storage locker rental program.
  • Aid Environmental Health & Safety in developing fire safety procedures for Residential Life in preparation of annual New York State health & safety inspections, as well as managing E-transportation device registration inspections.
  • Collaborate with various campus partners to develop fire safety and workplace safety training for students, staff, and faculty in residence halls and state buildings.
  • Assist departmental and divisional sustainability initiatives.
  • Serve in an on-call responsibility during some nights and weekends, responsible for addressing critical incidents involving students.

This position is classified as an Essential Employee.


Requirements:


  • Master's Degree (or higher) in Higher Education or related field
  • At least three years of professional experience in Residential Life
  • At least two years of progressive supervision experience

Preferred:


  • Experience working with Residential Life Operations
  • Experience managing event spaces
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects and priorities

History

Binghamton University opened its doors as Triple Cities College in 1946, to serve the needs of local veterans returning from service in World War II. Originally located in Endicott, N.Y., five miles west of the present campus, the fledgling school was a branch of Syracuse University.

Four years later, the college was incorporated into the State University of New York (SUNY) and renamed Harpur College in honor of Robert Harpur, a Colonial teacher, patriot and pioneer who helped settle the area west of Binghamton.

In 1961, the campus moved across the Susquehanna River to Vestal. Growing enrollment and a reputation for excellence soon led to the selection of Harpur College as one of four doctorate-granting University Centers in the SUNY system.

In 1965, the campus was formally designated the State University of New York at Binghamton, and in 1992, Binghamton University was adopted as our informal name.
