Job Description:
The Westchester Educational Opportunity Center (WEOC), a division of Westchester Community College, is seeking an experienced, energetic, innovative, results oriented professional to join its team. Located in Yonkers, NY, this non-traditional adult education institution provides tuition-free academic and vocational training to eligible underserved adults seeking to develop basic academic and vocational skills competencies and credentials needed for enrollment in college and/or entry into the workforce.
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, the Office Assistant performs a wide variety of clerical and administrative support tasks and functions as an assistant to a number of administrative and professional staff. The Office Assistant works with a high degree of independence in a fast-paced environment.
The Office Assistant (Word Processing-Spanish Speaking) coordinates office operations and assists unit administrator with general office support, including scheduling appointments, maintaining calendars, managing requisitions and office supplies, and assisting with special projects or initiatives as assigned. The incumbent offers assistance in organizing and maintaining student files, documents, and other administrative records; interacts with and responds to requests from students, professional staff, and administrators; and assists Spanish-speaking individuals, providing guidance, information, and support regarding services, procedures, and resources. They will also set up and maintain automated records and filing systems; write announcements, emails, summaries, meetings minutes, and like correspondence; and assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of Student Affairs events, workshops, orientations, and other activities. The incumbent will contribute to logistical arrangements, communications, registrations, and provide on-site support during events as necessary. Maintaining a well-organized and welcoming front desk area as well as using computer applications such as Microsoft Excel (spreadsheets), Microsoft Outlook, and videoconferencing tools in performing work assignments is also required.
Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: *This is a Civil Service position. The Department of Civil Service has developed a hiring program that streamlines the appointment process to allow agencies to hire diverse, qualified employees quickly and without examinations. The hiring for emergency limited placement (HELP) program temporarily removes the civil service exam requirement for this title.*
Possession of a high school or equivalency diploma and three years of experience where a primary function of the position was performing general office/clerical work, two years of which must have included the use of computer applications to maintain automated records or produce correspondence, spreadsheets, forms, reports, or other documents is required. Full fluency in English and Spanish, both written and verbal is also required.
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and evidence of equity-minded practice.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a minimum of an Associate's degree or Microsoft Office Certification or course work in Microsoft Office applications strongly preferred. Experience working in an educational institution also strongly preferred.

POSITION EFFECTIVE: The position will remain open until filled.
WORK SCHEDULE: The work schedule is Monday through Friday. Four days will be a schedule of 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., and one day will be 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary is $52,311. Additional compensation with seniority steps maximize at a salary of $63,413. Benefits include comprehensive health coverage, a choice of defined benefit or defined contribution pension plan, generous leave benefits, and access to tax sheltered annuities and a deferred compensation plan.

Enrollment
There are approximately 12,000 full- and part-time college credit students. Continuing education students bring the total number served by the college each semester to more than 20,000. Faculty
Westchester Community College’s faculty and professional staff have received more SUNY Chancellors Awards for Excellence than any other community college in the system. More than 98% hold masters or doctorate degrees in their fields. Student/faculty ratio is 16.1:1.
Veteran Friendly Campus
The college, which opened in 1946 in order to train and educate veterans, welcomes those who have served our country. We are considered a "Veteran Friendly Campus" due to our extensive services for those who have spent time in the military.
Degrees
The college offers more than 50 associate and certificate programs. We have three types of associate degrees in 36 subject areas: the Associate in Arts for students transferring to four-year institutions in the liberal arts; the Associate in Science for those transferring to four-year institutions for business, math, science or health careers; and the Associate in Applied Science for those preparing to seek immediate employment, change careers or transfer. In addition, certificate programs typically requiring between 15 to 33 credits are offered in approximately 20 career fields.
Continuing Education
The Continuing Education Division is the largest such unit in the entire SUNY system. It offers courses for people of all ages considering career choices or changes or personal development; customized training for businesses; innovative programming for older adults; an exciting arts and culture series open to the public.
Library
The Harold L. Drimmer Library / Learning Resource Center contains 110,000 volumes and 600 periodical titles, as well as more than 19 million searchable records and entries from 97 electronically-linked libraries.
Career & Transfer Center
The Career & Transfer Center helps students assess career options, plan career and curriculum, take steps toward transfer to a four-year college, prepare for job interviews, and locate and obtain jobs before and after graduation.
Child Care
Virginia Marx Children's Center at Westchester Community College (Valhalla campus) provides year-round, fully licensed and accredited care for children of students, faculty, staff and other working parents. Ages six weeks - five years.
Sports
Intercollegiate teams for men are fielded in soccer, basketball, lacrosse, golf, and baseball. Women's intercollegiate teams include tennis, volleyball, basketball, and softball. The Westchester Community College Fitness Center provides access to cardiovascular equipment, universal, nautilus, and light free weights, pool, and tennis courts. College athletics also include intramural sports.
