BASIC FUNCTION:

• Perform everyday maintenance of the laboratory, cell culture and mice colony
• Test and analyze human and mouse specimens

SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:

Technician will report to Dr. Marina Jerebtsova.

All test and analysis are designed by supervisor.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

This is a one-year position that is supported by NIH SC1HL150685 grant “The role of HGFL in the sickle cell disease nephropathy”. The proposed research is aimed at understanding of the mechanism of kidney disease and developing a novel clinical test for early kidney disease detection in sickle cell disease patients.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Order laboratory supply and reagents
• Isolate RNA and proteins from the cells and mouse organs
• Perform RT-PCR, Western Blot, and immunostaining of paraffin-embedded tissues
• Collect and organize results
• Participate in the laboratory meetings
• Participate in the preparation of IBC, IACUC and IRB protocols.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

• Self-motivated, cooperative, and dedicated
• Good communication skills
• Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Experience with animal handling, human cell cultures, immunohistochemistry, PCR and Western blot are highly preferred

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

B.S. or M.S degree in biology, molecular biology, immunology, physiology, or related fields.
