JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Residence Hall Coordinator is a full-time, live-in professional responsible for developing and administering a comprehensive residence life program within an assigned residence hall at Southern University and A&M College. The Residence Hall Coordinator provides leadership and oversight for the daily operation of the residence hall, including the supervision, training, development, and evaluation of assigned student staff. The position supports a safe, welcoming, and engaging residential environment that promotes student well-being, community development, and student success.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains regular daily office hours and demonstrates a high degree of visibility and availability to residents and staff. Participates in required evening and overnight residence hall coverage as assigned.Selects, supervises, trains, motivates, and evaluates residence hall staff, including graduate assistants, resident assistants, and student workers.Develops and conducts staff development and training programs for resident assistants and other assigned residence hall staff.Develops and supports programs and activities for residential students that promote personal wellness, student engagement, and community development.In cooperation with the Office of Student Judicial Affairs, assists with the administration of the University's student conduct and judicial processes for students residing in the residence halls.Enforces and supports University and departmental policies, procedures, and regulations.Collaborates with the Housekeeping Supervisor and University Housing Facilities Office to establish and maintain ongoing programs related to residence hall maintenance, cleaning, repairs, and refurbishment.Investigates and responds to concerns and complaints from students, parents, University personnel, and other stakeholders in a professional and timely manner while providing accurate information and promoting positive relations.Serves on assigned departmental committees and represents the Department of University Housing on campus-wide committees, as assigned.Assists with the development and delivery of resident assistant training courses, workshops, and other staff development activities conducted prior to and throughout each semester.Directs and coordinates residence hall assignment functions and maintains accurate room assignment and occupancy records.Performs other duties as assigned in support of University Housing and the residential student experience.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of two (2) years of related experience in residence life, student housing, student affairs, higher education, or a related area.

Southern University opened its doors in 1880 in New Orleans, Louisiana, with 12 students, five faculty members, and a budget totaling $10,000. In 1914, the University was relocated to Louisiana's capital city - Baton Rouge.
The Southern University and A&M College System was created by the state legislature under the management of the Southern University Board of Supervisors. The University expanded to other cities in the state, establishing Southern University, New Orleans (SUNO), Southern University, Shreveport (SUSLA), the Southern University Law Center, and the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center (SUAREC).
